Program Officer – Rebound Initiative

Location: Malewa West Ward, Naivasha Sub County
Job Purpose:
The Rebound initiative specifically targets economically disadvantaged school dropouts, aged between 15 and 18 years. Our aim is to facilitate several rounds of phase 1 foundational training which includes life skills, character building, spiritual formation and environmental awareness. Our hope is that these students will either re-enter traditional high school or enroll in vocational training. Those who are keen on conservation, will be further trained as young naturalists. Through Rebound, these youth will gain access to comprehensive life-skills training and conservation education, equipping them with the requisite knowledge, proficiencies, and motivation to confront the challenges posed by climate change and actively contribute to the betterment of their communities and the environment. In addition to our commitment to environmental education, the Rebound initiative will extend a lifeline to at-risk youth who have dropped out of school. To facilitate this program, we will establish an innovation lab, providing youth with the resources, educational opportunities, and support necessary to delve into the realm of environmental innovation. Furthermore, Rebound will actively assist and motivate these youth to pursue avenues for re-enrollment in formal education, acquire vocational training, or engage in specialized environmental education programs.
These may encompass diverse fields, including but not limited to safari guide training, Kenya Wildlife Service schooling, and more, ensuring that our youth are well-equipped to excel in environmentally oriented vocations.
 Job Summary:
The Program officer for the Rebound Initiative is responsible for the overall organization and implementation of the program including the duties: to liaise with the community and families of Rebound students, plan and ensure delivery of character building, life skills, remedial education and environmental lessons. Oversee successful implementation of activities related to the Rebound Program including but not limited to: games, team-building activities, outdoor learning activities and camps, field trips, marking assignments, entering relevant data in database, and overseeing participants working on projects.
Qualifications:
Experience:

Experience working with vulnerable children and youth. Experience with school dropouts, former street children or youth suffering from substance abuse preferrable.
Experience in conservation as demonstrated by personal involvement in environmental activities. Experience as a citizen naturalist, sustainable development facilitator or environmental educator preferrable.
Experience teaching and/or facilitating learning activities among vulnerable populations.
Experience in outdoor activities including but not limited to camping, adventure programming, and survival skills

Education: Must have academic qualifications in at least one of these areas with at least 5 years of experience working in relevant field with a respected organization

 Training in Social work or counseling
Training in teaching children
Training in working with substance abuse victims
Training in community development

Skills:

Competent in all computer skills including all Microsoft office applications and google drive
Proven ability to work on a team with cooperation and respect
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
