Description
The Procurement Manager works with all of DryGro’s business units (Operations, Technology and Plant Science) to source suppliers for the materials that are required for DryGro’s construction projects and ongoing operations (growing and processing Lemna). Each business unit is responsible for providing the Procurement Manager with relevant information about materials required, and the Procurement Manager coordinates closely with stakeholders to ensure clear handover of technical details.
The Procurement Manager structures and issues Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Purchase Orders (POs) to suppliers and contractors, and facilitates communication between all stakeholders to ensure that necessary information on specifications is provided. The Procurement Manager keeps the Operations, Technology and Plant Science teams informed of the schedule, quality and cost of materials. The Procurement Manager carefully tracks materials and communicates delivery times to relevant stakeholders. Any changes in the quality and cost of materials are also swiftly communicated by the Procurement Manager.
The Procurement Manager documents procurement decisions (bid evaluations) and pricing changes in accordance with DryGro’s procedures. The Procurement Manager keeps procurement management software up-to-date and rich with content on relevant projects and action items. The Procurement Manager also coordinates with the Project Manager to update project management software, as directed.
The Procurement Manager reports on supplier performance, capturing information such as adherence to schedule, quality of output or product, and support provided.
An important part of the Procurement Manager’s role is the development of strong relationships with preferred local suppliers and contractors.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Source suppliers for materials required for DryGro’s construction projects and ongoing operations (growing and processing Lemna)
Structure and issue Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Purchase Orders (POs) to suppliers
Facilitate communication between DryGro and suppliers / contractors
Inform Project Manager and relevant teams on schedule, quality, and cost of materials
Manage contracts with suppliers
Track deliverables and milestones of procurement activities
Seek necessary approvals for payments (act as gatekeeper for financial milestones of procurement activities)
Document procurement decisions (bid evaluations), and pricing changes
Inform Technology & Plant Science teams of Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) / Site Acceptance Tests (SATs)
Report on supplier performance
Keep procurement management software up-to-date and rich with content on relevant projects and action items
Ensure suppliers provide relevant compliance documentation (e.g. insurance, Kenya Bureau of Standards)
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from a reputable academic institution
At least 3 years’ prior experience working in procurement, ideally in construction or industrial projects
Experience in sales is highly desirable
Minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute
Competent in English and Kisawhili communication via a variety of mediums
Skilled with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
· Previous exposure to procurement software is highly desirable
