Position Overview
Reporting to the Mechanical Team Leader, and working closely with the Workshop Manager the Plant Mechanic will play a critical role in inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of heavy machinery and equipment used in our operations. The incumbent will possess strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
Inspect, diagnose, and perform preventive maintenance on a wide range of heavy equipment, including but not limited to bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and trucks.
Conduct repairs, replacements, and adjustments to mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to ensure optimal equipment functionality.
Perform routine service tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication to prevent breakdowns.
Troubleshooting:
Identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues by using diagnostic tools and equipment manuals.
Analyze complex problems, develop solutions, and execute repairs efficiently to minimize downtime.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
Ensure that equipment is in compliance with regulatory standards and environmental requirements.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs, including service logs, parts used, and maintenance schedules.
Provide detailed reports to the Mechanical Team Leader on equipment condition and repair status.
Team Collaboration:
Collaborate with the Mechanical Team Leader and other team members to prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks.
Assist in training junior mechanics or apprentices as needed.
Inventory Management:
Keep track of spare parts and materials inventory to ensure availability when needed.
Assist in ordering necessary parts and supplies for equipment maintenance and repairs.
Carrying out any other duties that may be given at the discretion of the management.
Qualifications and Skills
O-levels with professional qualification in motor vehicle or plant mechanics e.g. GTT 1, final craft, or Diploma.
At least five years’ experience working in a busy mechanical workshop dealing with plant machinery and equipment and experience on 4-wheel drive vehicles, Heavy commercial vehicles, water pumps and generators will be an advantage.
Excellent mechanical skills, team player, good communicator, keen, creative, and capable of working under extreme pressure
