Position Summary
The Photo and Video Editor will provide editing services of USAID videos as directed and assigned by USAID C4D. This will include translation to the Somali language and applying relevant context to the video products as needed for resonance with audiences. Under this assignment, the Editor will support the creation and production of four videos.
Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with communications leads to understand project objectives and deliver content that aligns with the vision.
Conduct an extensive review and categorization of previously captured footage, including more than 1tb worth of content, that includes b-rolls and interviews.
Develop scripts and visual storyboards based on footage review to gain consensus on the overall direction of the video.
Recommend creative video formats and styles that best fit the content available.
Edit video content, including trimming, sequencing, and enhancing visual and audio elements to meet project requirements, and download project files to the hard drive.
Incorporate graphics, effects, and transitions to enhance production value.
Update and refer to scripts and storyboards to edit videos and apply logos appropriately.
Work closely with the USAID/C4D project team to incorporate feedback and revisions into the editing process, maintaining open communication channels throughout.
Ensure central tracking and review of edits on a Google Document, implement edits requested, and provide the final product.
Ensure consistency in style, branding, and quality across all video projects.
Provide accurate and culturally sensitive translation, dubbing, and subtitling of Somali language content, ensuring readability and proper timing.
Conduct thorough reviews of final edits to identify and address any issues or discrepancies before final delivery.
Qualifications
Technical diploma/certificate in photo and video production with minimum five years of experience in video production required. Bachelor’s degree in film, video production, or related field with minimum three years of experience in video production is preferred.
Experience working on Somali content or within the Somali media industry is highly preferred.
Experience with non-governmental organizations, donors, and/or agency or mass media is preferred.
Strong understanding of Somali culture, language, and storytelling techniques is required.
Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism while managing multiple projects simultaneously and adhering to deadlines is required.
Ability to adapt content to resonate with Somali audiences, considering cultural references and societal norms is required.
Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro is required.
Strong written and verbal fluency in English and Somali is required.
