People Operations Manager

Job Overview

As People Operations Manager, you will lead all HR and People-related work for Branch in East Africa. This includes providing strategic direction to the organization, working closely with the EA Managing Director and Branch’s Global Head of People, and leading a team of HR professionals. You will have a key focus on hiring, employee engagement and retention, performance management, and overall scaling up of the organization. This role reports to the East Africa Managing Director.

Responsibilities

Spearhead and drive the people strategy in synergy with business strategy, including budgeting and planning, execution, and analysis
Manage a team to set goals and deliver efficient, high-quality solutions and services with respect to recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee engagement
Forecast talent requirements and oversee hiring
Serve as culture champion and develop a strong and unique Employee Value Proposition for the organization
Coordinate country performance management processes and assist global performance tracking efforts, e.g. ensuring continuous OKR setting across teams, facilitating one-on-ones and mid-year check-ins and all subsequent training needed by staff 
Administer region-specific HR and administration tools and benefits, ensuring their proper utilization, user access, and user training 
Work closely with managers and the Board of Directors as a strategic advisor to address employee issues proactively
Work with the Regulators in the region to ensure compliance with respect to Fit and Proper certifications, Training and Employment Checks
Ensure all back-end HR operational processes such as payroll and compliance are managed well in terms of TAT, accuracy, and frequency, leading to seamless service delivery
Coordinate with the global People Operations team to create and produce programming and policies that make Branch the best place to work
Build and promote the employer brand to attract and retain great talent

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or any related field with relevant experience
Professional Certification in Human Resource Management  with membership to the Institute of Human Resource Management
Solid Knowledge of HR functions including payroll management, benefits administration, recruitment, training and development
You have led HR for a small- to mid-sized startup
You are a quick learner and influencer
You are comfortable working with global teams and able to apply local context to global practices
You have experience with scaling teams and organizations
You are highly entrepreneurial, comfortable with ambiguity, and taking initiative
You are an excellent collaborator and team player
