About the job

The NRG Representative coordinates the action of the NRG and is represents the NRG in all inter-agency and governmental planning mechanisms related to humanitarian and development planning for refugees, and the operationalization of the Refugee Act and the Marshall Plan. He/she reports to the Steering Committee of the NRG, which oversees the NRG’s work, closely coordinates with him/her on key activities and holds him/her accountable. The NRG currently comprises over 30 NGOs, including the Department of Refugee Services (DRS). The overall tasks of the role is Coordinating the technical, strategic and advocacy activities of the NGOs Refugee Working Group in close collaboration with the steering committee. Representing the NRG externally and putting forward its opinions and propositions.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Representation, Advocacy and Communication:

Representing the best interests of the NRG and its members externally at key stakeholder meetings, including with the UN and the Government of Kenya
Ensuring that all relevant parties are kept informed of NRG activities.
Working towards NRG representation on all key panels and consultative bodies related to policies and funding related to refugees & asylum seekers in Kenya.
Regularly engaging with and meet key stakeholders within the Government of Kenya, including DRS.
Developing active networking and partnership building with refugee-led organisations.
Facilitating the development of NRG governance and strategy documents, including an advocacy strategy
Networking and conducting outreach to key stakeholders.
Ensuring increased NRG member engagement through increased consultation with members and representing their perspectives in stakeholder meetings
Supporting the production of advocacy and communications products, including authoring briefings, letters and talking points ahead of key advocacy moments.
Supporting the development of common positioning on key policy, operational and funding issues, through providing members with the most updated information gathered from meetings with various stakeholders, sectors and working groups.
Liaising with Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS) to align the advocacy of the NRG with their ongoing work.
Briefing the NRG on progress in relation to advocacy topics on at least a monthly basis. Convening additional meetings of interested members of the NRWG on specific advocacy topics as appropriate.

Internal Coordination:

Scheduling and facilitating NRG general meetings and sub-working group meetings.
In coordination with the Steering Committee, streamlining communication and ensuring that key documents, minutes etc. are shared with the NRG membership as appropriate.
Providing an accessible first point of contact for general inquiries regarding the NRWG and its work.
Maintaining membership lists and databases.
Advising the Steering committee on Membership issues and other matters regarding the structure of the NRG.
Preparing a workplan to be approved by Steering committee.
Implementing of the workplan and agreeing on modifications with the Steering committee.

About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to possess the following:
Required

Minimum bachelor’s degree in law, social sciences, international development, or other relevant field.
A degree in a related field, such as international relations, migration, human rights, law, or social sciences;
A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in the international humanitarian aid with at least five years’ experience in a similar role or at the level of Country Representative, Country Director, Deputy Chief of Party, Team Lead, Group representative.
Substantial experience in representation and advocacy with senior-level UN and Government stakeholders
Experience in development of governance and advocacy strategy documents
Demonstrated experience in developing active networking and partnership building with refugee-led organisations.
Robust analytical and strategic planning skills;
Highly diplomatic with excellent political awareness and understanding;
High-level communications and interpersonal skills;
A demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with host governments, donors, partners, local organizations, and other stakeholders;
Full professional proficiency in English
