Operations Manager

Main purpose of the position:

Plan, direct and coordinate the operations of coated steel plant at Mariakani.
Ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of coated steel business.
Organize operations through the provision of effective methods and strategies for performance improvement.

Key responsibilities:

Coordination and Supervision – Coordinate, manage and monitor the workings of Pickling, Cold Rolling Mills, Metal Coating Line, Colour Coating Line and Roofing units.
Financial – Review financial statements and data. Utilize financial data to improve profitability. Prepare and control operational budgets, control inventory, plan effective strategies for the financial well-being of the coated steel plant.
Best Practices – Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals. Formulate and implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures to maximize output. Monitor adherence to rules, regulations and procedures.
Human Resources – Plan the use of human resources. Organize recruitment and placement of required staff. Establish organizational structures. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Monitor and evaluate performance.
Production – Coordinate and monitor the work of various departments involved in production, warehousing and distribution of goods. Monitor performance and implement improvements. Ensure quality of products. Manage quality and quantity of employee productivity. Manage maintenance of equipment and machinery. Provide technical support where necessary.
Communication – Monitor, manage and improve the efficiency of support services such as IT, HR, Accounts and Finance. Facilitate coordination and communication between support functions.
Sales, Marketing and Customer Service – Manage customer support. Plan and support sales and marketing activities.
Strategic Input – Liaison with top management, assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activity. Implement and manage operational plans. 

Budgetary responsibility:

Responsible in formulating the budget for maintenance and production and ensuring there is compliance to the budget.
Make any necessary reviews that he may deem appropriate in consultation with the Business Head and Head of Finance.
Ensure that fixed and variable costs are monitored, reviewed and controlled as per the budgetary guidelines.
Ensure that WIP & FG inventory is strictly controlled and any rework materials are processed in good time.

Procurement responsibility:

Overall responsibility of taking decisions on procurement on the quality and quantity in consultation with the supply chain department in line with the budget.
Ensure that inventory is maintained at optimum levels without compromising on production and maintenance efficiency.

SAP responsibility:

Ensure that all the production & maintenance systems follow the guidelines as governed by the SAP process.
Ensure that SAP compliance is monitored and improved.
As a member of the Mariakani Steering Committee on SAP – ensure that SAP systems are regularly improved.

Administrative responsibility :

Ensure compliance to all rules and regulations of the company.
Ensure compliance to all statutory regulations as per Kenyan law.
Implement discipline on the company premises.
Strictly implement EHS procedures.

Requirements
Qualifications required:

College degree in business administration, commerce, management, industrial technology or industrial engineering.
Industry relevant production experience.
Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management.
Knowledge of business and management principles and practices.
Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge of human resource principles and practices.
Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
Information technology skills

Experience required:

General work experience of a minimum of Fifteen (15) years with seven (7) year specific to the position (level/discipline/years)
At least 10 years of steel manufacturing industry experience.
Ability to work with a team of people from diverse cultures and capable of providing leadership, motivation, mentoring, developing systems, training and developing talent in the team
Ability to work for long hours whenever the job demands.
