Advertisement for MSc Studentships
Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) is undertaking research projects; (1) in Kisumu, Nandi and Marsabit counties on the impact of climate change and health focusing on vector borne disease and (2) in Kisii county to understand the biology of native Wolbachia strains in Anopheles mosquitoes for use in malaria biological control. Consequently, several Masters Studentships are available in the 2 projects.
The projects invite applications from individuals who are registered for a master’s degree and completed their taught sessions to spend upto 8 months at Dr.Shehu Awandu’s Lab at JOOUST including field research sites.
The candidates will carry out their Master research project in a high-quality research environment under the supervision of globally renowned researchers.
Studentships are available in the following research areas
Vector biology (Anopheles and Aedes mosquitoes)
Malaria Molecular Biology
Immunology
Public Health, Epidemiology and Social Sciences Biostatistics/Modelling
The studentship will provide a modest monthly stipend while research costs will be covered under the Pl, Dr. Shehu Awandu research funds.
Eligibility criteria
Applications are invited from Kenyans who
Scored a B+ and above in their KCSE and attained at least an upper second-class Bachelor’s Degree.
Already registered for Master training in a recognized University in the subject areas that are relevant for the projects area indicated above.
Completed coursework/year one of study and passed, awaiting research.
Previous experience working in a research or laboratory environment (molecular biology and
biochemistry methods) and conducting field-based surveys is an added advantage.
Adaptable, curious, team player, self-motivated, and open to learning. Must be able to work in a fast- paced research environment

Studentships will start as soon as possible.
