Marine Program Coordinator (MPC)

Job Purpose
The Marine Program Coordinator (MPC) will support implementation of NRT Marine Strategy with focus on development/designing, coordination, and implementation of marine science and coastal conservation programs. This includes leading the design and implementation of marine science work, oversight of scientific data collection (e.g., ecological, socio-economic, fisheries monitoring etc.), analysis, impact tracking, and reporting. Research and Impact monitoring; and Development of M&E framework for Marine Programs. The Marine Program Coordinator (MPC) will be reporting to NRT-Coast Regional Director and providing oversight to all marine program officers while also working very closely with NRT Marine Strategy key partners including The Nature Conservancy, Fauna & Flora, County Governments, relevant national government agencies and other key partners.
Key roles/responsibilities

Oversee and coordinate effective implementation of marine and coastal conservation programs and ensure timely delivery of high-quality outputs (including activity reports) and outcomes.
Track expenditure across existing marine grants to ensure expenses are correctly charged to relevant projects, financial reports are generated and gaps for additional funding are identified and communicated to NRT and partners.
Support the design, development, implementation, and impact monitoring of Marine Programs. • Development of M&E framework for NRT Marine Programs.
Oversee and support marine programs scientific research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Work alongside the Marine Conservancies Development Officer, and Marine Enterprise and Monitoring Officer to support overall implementation of the NRT Marine Strategy.
Ensure the marine programs are compliant to delivery plans, budgets, reporting requirements and content is generated for and from these to feed to impact reporting.
Coordinate donor technical report writing and editing with inputs of team members and partners, ensuring accurate and timely technical reports as per donor requirements.
Support NRT colleagues and relevant partner staff in consolidating and sharing of lessons learnt from implementation of the marine projects.
Support in identifying capacity gaps that will need to be addressed for successful delivery of NRT’s growing portfolio of projects.
Provide daily support to the Regional Director as directed, especially focused on proposal development, development of workplans, marine project reporting and tracking of the key deliverables, and budgets.
Perform any other duties delegated from time to time by the Regional Director

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

 Master’s degree in marine science, Marine Biology, Fisheries Management, or related field and at least 5 years’ experience in coastal/marine science, conservation; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Experience in data analysis and interpretation (incl. using statistical packages/software) and reporting, in the field of marine ecology, fisheries and/or coastal socio-economy.
 Demonstrated knowledge and experience in community-led marine conservation and coastal community livelihoods.
 Demonstrable experience of project management at coordinator level.
 A strong drive for results with demonstrated ability to work with multiple partners both collaboratively and independently.
 Demonstrated ability in handling demanding work schedules mostly in remote locations in the field (Lamu-Tana seascape).
 Fluent written and spoken Kiswahili and English skills.
 Experience working with local communities.
 Understanding of issues marine conservation issues, policies, and regulations in Kenya.
 Demonstrated experience and skills in managing complex related projects.
 Team player, with ability to seek out views of others and build positive working relationships.
