Manufacturing Manager

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Manufacturing Manager coordinates the manufacturing process in the factory and ensures smooth running of shifts to produce quality tea that meets customer specifications.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Deliver the Manufacturing Unit business targets in the company.
To coordinate implementation of the manufacturing process plan in the factory.
To coordinate the implementation of WCM (World Class Manufacturing), OHSA (Occupational Health, Safety and Environment), Quality Management systems (QMS) and Rainforest Alliance in the factory.
Implements factory procedures and SOPS and ensure compliance by the factory team.
Implements IR/ER systems in the factory.

Production and Planning

Coordinate manufacturing process for the production of made tea to ensure customer requirements are achieved.
Implement Good Manufacturing Practices in all sections of manufacture in the production shifts.
Monitor production key performance indicators of the factory; generate daily, weekly and monthly reports.
Verify and consolidate daily, weekly and monthly administrative returns.
Keep and ensure accuracy of the production records, weekly and monthly tea returns.
Communicates upwards/downwards/peers in the factory to ensure smooth flow of information.
Stand in for the line manager and undertake other responsibilities as may be assigned by the line manager.
Coordinate implementation of WCM process improvement activities with the WCM protocol.

Quality

Implement Quality and Consumer safety Management System in production.
Ensure reception of Quality incoming raw materials as per company policies and standards.
Implement the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
Ensure production of quality made tea in line with customer/consumer specifications.
Implement the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) system in the factory.
Monitor and taste hourly and invoice tea samples.
Initiates and implement quality improvement plans and activities in the factory in liaison with the Head of Manufacturing.

Assets and Stocks

Monitor and validate stock and non-stock movements.
Provide input into the development of capital proposals in the Factory.
Responsible for the utilization of assets that includes process and plant machinery.
Responsible for the company assets at the factory.
Flag up redundant/obsolete assets to manager for disposal.
Coordinate the day-to-day operation and smooth delivery of Utilities (firewood, steam, water and electricity) in the factory and villages.
Flag up redundant/obsolete assets to the manufacturing manager for disposal.
Maintains the factory register and all other legal statutory documents and keep up to date.

Projects

Keep abreast of all new technology covering tea making, market, and packing, maintenance, transport and energy usage and make proposals for implementation where appropriate.
Effect process manufacturing trials and implement trials aligned with technology team and the Head of Manufacturing and implement projects as agreed with Manufacturing Manager.
Collate and document innovative ideas for the factory and capture all improvement proposals from shop floor.
Implementation and follow up on improvement ideas on the shop floor.

Finance, logistics and supplies

Initiates the requisition process for additional stocks in line with the unit requirements and authorise issues of items from factory stores.
Provide proposals for input into the annual budget preparations.
Control direct budgetary expenses through resource allocation and utilisation in the factory.
Implement production aspects of the accounting manual.
Provide input into the monthly accounts review and implements agreed actions.
Verify and consolidate daily, weekly and monthly financial returns.

People

Implements employee establishment in the factory.
Implement the training and coaching factory production team.
Handle any internal industrial/employees relation issues in the factory in conjunction with HRBP.
Implement agreed welfare programmes and attend planned meetings ensuring completion of resultant actions.
Responsible for a production team and ensuring that agreed work plan targets and standards are implemented.
Provide input and participate in the modular training of factory employees.
Coordinate all statutory requirements and ensure they are adhered to at all times.
Implement factory legislation, regulations, CBA and organization standards.
Implement employee target settings, reviews and approach.

Social and welfare

Implement all social and welfare programmes including security, housing maintenance, recreation and general welfare amenities, and schools under the factory ensuring they meet the required standards.

Safety, Health, Environment, RA

Coordinate implementation of Safety, Health & Environmental and RA management systems as per company policies and legislation in the factory.
Authorize permit to work certificates in line with company policies.
Coordinate implementation of standard operating procedures and specific work instructions and ensure compliance and collate proposals for reviews.
Coordinate implementation of safe travel guidelines as stipulated in the standard.
Maintains the factory disciplinary and safety data.
Responsible for the full implementation of the safety framework standards and all SHE standards at the factory

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

BSc. Engineering, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering other relevant Engineering course
5 years’ experience in food production & processing
Knowledge on product, process and Quality Assurance.
Working Knowledge in manufacturing Performance Management
Basic appreciation of Project Management
Sound understanding of Safety Standards – OSHA
Consumer and customer focus
Excellent tea tasting skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and Team player.
Basic appreciation in financial management systems.
Working knowledge on IR/ER skills
Computer skills
