Manufacturing and Design Engineer

The Manufacturing and Design Engineer will manage the manufacturing of teff row planters and similar technologies while supporting design projects that will impact tens of thousands of farmers across Ethiopia.
User Insight Expert: From focus groups, to in-depth farmer interviews, to observing farmers, you are committed to using a variety of methods and tools in order to gather insights from the field to design new, innovative agricultural tools and conduct impact assessments of new tools.
Product Design Expert: Using Human Centered Design approaches, you will be taking products from concept to prototype to small scale production. You are just as comfortable in the field speaking with customers as you are in the workshop building prototypes and are eager to use your design skills to design life changing tools and products.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications
Required qualifications:
University degree in engineering
Fluent in written and spoken English and Swahili
5+ years of work experience, including some management responsibilities
Management or leadership experience
Experience operating machine shop and prototyping machinery (CNC, 3D printers, mills, etc.)
Solid understanding and experience in the practical application of human centered design to develop new products

Experience with Computer Aided Design, particularly AutoCAD and SolidWorks
Flexible and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while being part of an awesome team

Preferred qualifications:
Experience in designing and conducting qualitative interviews and surveys
Experience with rapid prototyping in resource-constrained settings
Solid understanding and experience in the practical application of human centered design
Knowledge of other local languages an asset
Preferred Start Date: January 2017
Compensation: Starts modest. However, this is a career-track role with raises for performance.
