Brief Description
The candidate will support the Head of Risks & Controls in execution of their mandate by driving the technical accounting compliance, financial and operational internal controls, process simplification, operational excellence and closure of audit finding with the aim of driving a world class control environment.
In addition, role holder with drive and support oversight, establish, and maintain a robust and effective enterprise-wide risk management and compliance framework that will provide assurance to the company through the Audit & Risk Board Committee around enterprise risk management.
Detailed Description
Principal Accountabilities (Responsibilities)
Drive the testing of controls particularly through review of existing policies and procedures to improve financial controls and efficiency and development of control improvement action plans.
Own the design, implementation, documentation, assessment, and monitoring of the Group’s internal control framework, including group policies and key risks in order to ensure that the group has adequate controls to prevent unintentional and intentional errors in financial reporting, processes and business operations.
Undertake the Financial Controls Checklist process, including ensuring action plans are in place to improve any low scoring areas (especially for the defined critical controls).
Act as the Security Champion (primary or backup), ensuring appropriate segregation of Ownership of the DOA (Delegation of Authority) and/ or maker checker – including assuring adherence to it.
Own process improvement projects for Finance such as system enhancement, deployment of new software and tools, process optimization, etc.
Review processes between teams and external providers for cost and time effective exchanges of information and receipt of deliverables.
Actively engage with internal and external auditors to ensure consideration and resolution of all relevant risks and audit findings.
Develop and conduct adequate training and prepare related information material on the internal control objectives, approach, and methodology to business partners on a regular basis to build knowledge and understanding of risks and control.
Drive the internal controls benchmark to develop and implement a road map to get to best in class.
Drive ownership of all including key controllership metrics (account reconciliations, audit script closures, statutory financial statement filings and audit open items, etc.)
Ensure the quality of account reconciliations and Balance Sheet analysis to maintain the integrity of the accounts.
Drive overall ownership and accountability of Controllership initiatives across the company.
Provide leadership on the risk assessment processes in coordination with respective SBUs and ensuring that the compliance risks are appropriately identified and assessed.
Support in the implementation of the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework
Prioritize plans and interventions to identify, manage, eliminate, or mitigate risks.
Proactively identify and profile all Business risk exposures from emerging changes in business operations and trends (including competitors’ activities and economic and political change) and support stakeholders in actions towards mitigating the risks
Coordinate risk management structures to enable Management develop specific measures in line with the Company’s risk appetite
Review and recommend actions towards compliance with audit and regulatory inspection findings on risk exposures while monitoring / tracking and coordinating adherence to corrective action plans agreed to by Management.
Provide Risk reports on completion of reviews to the relevant functional Heads and Management for remedial action. Collaborate with Internal Audit to fill all disclosed gaps.
Challenging the Company management and recommend amendments to the internal policies, procedures, and processes, where applicable, based on the identified and assessed gaps associated with the Company’s business activities.
Support in the liaison with regulators on best practice and innovations in Risk Management and ensuring these are embedded within the Company.
Work with internal audit to drive alignment between the ERM process and internal audit.
Coordinate and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, to ensure ease of communication, information sourcing, and achievement of timely responses to queries and ensuring that the Company’s views are appropriately represented.
Develop and maintain a Risk management staff training program, to ensure knowledge gaps are eliminated and critical knowledge requirements are disseminated to staff on an ongoing basis.
Job Requirements
Qualification (Minimum)
Relevant University Degree from a reputable Institution.
Professional Qualification e.g. CPA/ACCA/CIMA/ACA.
Sound systems knowledge and experience working with ERP.
Process improvement and systems innovation experience.
Advanced Excel and Power point skills.
Accounting or Project management background.
Understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards.
Over 10 years of work experience preferably covering audit (internal/external), operations and project management.
