The Legal Officer will work with Wananchi Legal & Regulatory Affairs Department, including but not limited to supporting all entities within Wananchi Group (“Wananchi Portfolio”) in various jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting, negotiating and reviewing commercial and technical contracts, leases and any other form of agreements;
Litigation management: assist in management of litigation portfolio, preparing witnesses and liaising with external counsel;
Attend to debt collection internally and externally in liaison with credit control and external legal counsel;
Prepare legal opinions and advisories on advancements in laws and regulations that impact Wananchi operations;
Attend disciplinary proceedings and advise on labor related matters.
Maintain an up-to-date efficient filing system and central custody of all commercial agreements, leases, licenses & permits;
Protection of brand equity through registration of trademarks and service marks
Assist in managing data privacy program and ensuring the compliance with evolving data privacy laws
Support in regulatory, and compliance roles, as maybe assigned from time to time.
Assist the Director- Legal& Regulatory and undertake other duties as maybe assigned from time to time;
Academic Qualifications:
A degree in Law (LLB), LLM will be an added advantage;
Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law
Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
Member -Law Society of Kenya Professional,
Experience and Skills
Minimum of 3 years working experience;
Experience in drafting, preparing and negotiating commercial contracts ;
Good grasp of application of law in a business environment;
Experience in Telecoms/ICT industry as well as cross-border transactions, will be an added advantage;
Ability to multitask and deliver on assigned tasks.
Ability to interact and collaborate with various and dynamic teams
