As a Legal Associate at Roots Africa, you will play a critical role in our mission to facilitate secure real estate investments for Africans in the diaspora. You will provide comprehensive legal support for property transactions, ensuring compliance with local and international real estate laws and regulations. You will help our clients navigate the complexities of cross-border real estate investments with confidence and peace of mind.
Duties and Responsibilities
Real Estate Transaction Support: Provide end-to-end legal support for property acquisitions, sales, and transfers across multiple African jurisdictions.
Document Preparation and Review: Draft, review, and analyze property transaction documents, including purchase agreements, lease contracts, and title deeds.
Due Diligence: Conduct thorough legal due diligence on properties, including title searches, encumbrance verification, and regulatory compliance checks.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all transactions comply with local real estate laws, tax regulations, and foreign investment requirements in various African countries.
Client Advisory: Provide clear legal advice to clients regarding property rights, ownership structures, and investment risks in different African jurisdictions.
Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks in property transactions and develop mitigation strategies to protect client interests.
Cross-Border Expertise: Navigate the complexities of international property investments, including currency regulations and repatriation of funds.
Documentation Management: Maintain accurate and comprehensive legal documentation for all property transactions.
Legal Research: Stay updated on real estate laws and regulations across multiple African jurisdictions to provide accurate and current legal guidance.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with local counsel, government officials, and real estate professionals to facilitate smooth property transactions.
Legal Consulting: Support our premium members in the community with consulting services on a need basis and ensure their satisfaction.

Qualifications
Law degree from an accredited institution with a strong academic record.
Minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience in real estate law or related practice.
Demonstrated experience in real estate transactions, property law, and cross-border investments.
Strong understanding of land tenure systems and property rights across multiple African countries.
Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Outstanding communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to clients.
Proficiency in legal research tools and property documentation systems.
Familiarity with international investment regulations affecting real estate transactions.
