Legal Associate

Responsible for assisting in the Legal Office function within the Board Strategy and Legal Affairs Unit, with special emphasis on contract support. This role supports and assists the Senior Legal Officer and the Legal Officer in their assigned duties and responsibilities.
Duties and responsibilities

Assist in drafting, revising, reviewing and negotiation of all centre agreements and assist develop and improve on existing contract templates.
Assist legal offices in Undertaking research on the legal environment in all countries which the centres operate.
Assist in legal research and preparation of legal opinions and advisory.
Assist in developing, reviewing, harmonization and implementation of ICRAF’s Policies and Guidelines related to legal issues, funding agreements, and Intellectual Property matters
Keep abreast with legal & policy developments at national, regional, and international level and assist in providing updates and advice on such developments in law that are relevant to the Centres.

Assist in coordinating capacity building trainings and consultation on legal and/ or Intellectual Property within the Centre.
Assist in conducting legal risk analysis/ Audit and legal due diligence.
Develop and manage a master template database for contracts, applicable laws and regulations, and other precedents.
Assist Legal Office in litigation and managing case support, assist maintain the litigation register & Schedule of Claims and assist maintain liaison with external counsel.
Assist in negotiations & out of court resolutions involving partners, donors, and suppliers.

Requirements

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.
Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
A current Practicing Certificate.
1-2 years post admission experience in handling commercial contracts, Intellectual Property matters and litigation.
 Legal knowledge & expertise in legal matters Including Intellectual Property, Employment & Labour Law among others.
Experience in an international organization or non-profit sector.
 Good knowledge of international administrative law.
 Good understanding of labour laws, Human Resources practices, policies, concepts, and procedures.
