Job Objective/Purpose
To ensure the provision of effective, efficient and high quality laboratory diagnostic services in the hospital, as defined by Avenue Healthcare’s policies, protocols, procedures and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform diagnostic testing procedures following approved SOPs, analyse the result, and provide all relevant data that may pertain to prevention, diagnosis, or treatment.
Record, verify, and amend (when required) the test results, and ensure the integrity of the results database. 3. Report the test results in writing, via phone or computer entry, to ensure timely dissemination of data required by the clinical and medical teams.
Ensure proper inventory, maintenance, and calibration of the equipment used in the laboratory for efficient and accurate results. This includes recording of the laboratory fridge temperature and ambient temperature, and humidity, twice daily.
Ensure a safe working environment in accordance with relevant legislation and all safety protocols, including observing Quality control standards, adherence to infection control standards, and correct disposal of medical and bio-hazardous waste.
Follow laid down Lab Board approved rules for the medical lab profession, and adhere to Government and professional standards of care and treatment of patients.
Ensure proper Stock management, including proper storage, and daily or spot stock counts of lab supplies, reporting any shortages to the Laboratory Superintendent.
Ensure the unit is financially viable, and demonstrate growth, by managing costs within budget, through timely and accurate billing of services.
Observe and practice high quality of service through effective communication, prompt feedback, and escalation of any unresolved issues to the Laboratory Superintendent.
Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies are adhered to, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and Implementing audit recommendations.
Ensure adequate knowledge of, and compliance to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures and systems, especially policies pertaining to the provision of medical services.
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor.
Personal Specifications
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related discipline.
Valid Registration Certificate issued by KMLTTB
2+ years’ experience working in a busy environment.
