Role Summary

The French/Kiswahili teacher plays a pivotal role in fostering language learning as a vehicle for thought, reflection, self-expression, and cross-disciplinary integration. Through their teaching, students will gain an appreciation of the nature of language and its function as a tool for linguistic integration and cultural understanding. By emphasizing social and cultural components, the teacher will help students build critical literacy and communication skills essential for global citizenship.

The teacher will employ effective teamwork and collaboration to create a dynamic, inclusive learning environment. Differentiation strategies will be used to meet the diverse needs of learners and teaching practices will be guided by formative and summative assessments to ensure optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborative Planning: Design and implement units of study that maximize learning for all students.
Instructional Delivery: Deliver effective, differentiated and inquiry-based lessons that create a friendly and supportive atmosphere conducive to learning.
Student Well-being: Foster a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Assessment Practices: Utilize varied assessments, including formative and summative methods, in alignment with IBO requirements to inform teaching and monitor progress.
Parental Engagement: Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, fostering collaboration in supporting students’ education.
Subject Expertise: Demonstrate a deep understanding of French/Kiswahili and modern pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning.
Student Evaluation: Provide accurate evaluations and constructive feedback on students’ abilities and developmental potential.
Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with students, colleagues, and parents, utilizing tools such as email and the school information system.
Professional Values: Exhibit high professional standards, values, and practices in all aspects of teaching and learning.
Professional Development: Commit to ongoing professional growth and actively contribute to fulfilling the vision and philosophy of the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi.

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in the respective field
TSC Certification
5 years of IB Middle Years’ Programme and/or IB Diploma outstanding teaching experience as well as previous Middle Years’ Programme experience.
