OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
Regional Bureau Nairobi (RBN) and Service Model (SM) team agreed to develop a joint initiative, named Integrated Corridor Management (ICM), aimed at developing an innovative solution for the management of RBN Supply Chain corridors. The solution will enable Supply Chain (SC) Services to be operated within the context Service Model approach.
Within the Service Model, the service provision and cost accounting components play a crucial role in the achievement of the project objectives.
Main deliverables expected for the cost accounting work stream are a) definition of a cost management methodology to determine the cost of the services provided under the ICM; b) establishment of an end-to-end system-based Proof of Concept (PoC) of the Service Model that showcases its end to end functioning and cost management model.
In order to achieve those deliverables, the RBN & SM are looking for an intern to support the development of the identified joint initiative, from November 2018 to January 2019.
The projects activities the Intern will participate include:

Service costing definition and controlling model;
Supply Chain cost collection and service cost allocation mechanisms, including direct costs, indirect costs, and overheads;
Service cost accounting business processes integrated with the other corporate businesses.The position will be based in Nairobi Regional Bureau. The Intern will work in strict coordination with business experts and involved stakeholders under the guidance, supervision and reporting lines of the Cost Accounting Work stream Leader.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Role objective:
The Intern will be responsible for supporting the following cost accounting work stream activities:

Definition of the service costing model;
Mapping of the to-be ICM business processes;
Design of the cost accounting framework;
Development of the Proof of Concept
Development of project communication documents including concept papers, business requirements, note for the records for the cost accounting work-streams;

Expected output:
The expected deliverables for the intern by January 2019 are contribution to the following:

Formalization of the ICM to be business processes
Formalization of cost accounting concept paper for the ICM
Formalization of the ICM PoC
Effective interaction with the stakeholders
Effective information management and communication established among the team.
Any other duties requested by the cost accounting work-stream leader.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance.
Work experience:
Minimum of 2 years of demonstrable relevant Finance & Accounting experience.
Geographical experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in Africa (essential).
Languages:
Fluency in English is essential.
Key competencies:
Knowledge of financial accounting, knowledge of cost accounting principles and methodologies, excellent written and analytical skills; good research and learning capacity; ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure as part of a team; good communication skills; sound knowledge of Microsoft package (Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and other related software); knowledge of Microsoft ACCESS as well as knowledge of HTML and other programming languages and platforms (WordPress, Drupal, etc.) are appreciated.
Other relevant information:
Proficiency in both spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is also appreciated.
