ROLE PURPOSE:
Humanitarian response represents roughly half of Save the Children International’s global portfolio. Typically Save responds to circa 100 global humanitarian crises each year. Building our humanitarian affairs, influencing and policy capability is at the core of our strategy to achieve immediate and lasting change for the most deprived children.
This role will deploy to humanitarian response teams to develop and implement humanitarian advocacy strategies working in close coordination with Advocacy, Communications and Media team in the Country Office, Regional Office and the Humanitarian Advocacy Working Group. This role is a member of the Humanitarian Surge Team and will deploy to country offices for approximately 60% of time. The remaining 40% of time will be allocated to research, policy development and contribution to capacity strengthening initiatives to support the continuous improvement of humanitarian advocacy.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
Higher level education degree, Masters or above, in a relevant field (e.g., International Development, International Relations, Peace building, or Security Studies)
Minimum 5 years experience in developing and implementing humanitarian advocacy strategies and knowledge of children’s rights, protection and humanitarian affairs.
Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children
Proven experience of working effectively in coalitions/networks of civil society organisations.
Willingness to travel at very short notice, including to high-risk locations for deployment as a member of the Global Expertise Humanitarian Surge Platform.
Excellent research, analytical and written communication skills
Proven ability to manage multiple and competing demands, work to tight deadlines and brief senior staff
Good project management skills related to organisational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results
Exposure to and understanding of humanitarian field realities and an ability to work in demanding and fast-moving contexts
Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse setting
Understanding of and commitment to Save the Children’s mission, vision, values and ways of working
Desirable
Previous experience of deployment in humanitarian response teams; developing and implementing advocacy strategies
Exposure to and understanding of humanitarian field realities and an ability to work in demanding and fast-moving contexts
Experience of developing training and capacity strengthening initiatives
Fluency in French, Arabic and/or Spanish
