Job description

Key Activities

Develop a close working relationship with managers, supporting them through coaching and advice that is tailored to the needs of the direction of the business.
Support managers with performance management. Work with line managers to ensure that the right people are in the right jobs. Work with line managers to identify, develop and retain talent.
Manage team members and support their development.
Deal with complex queries on the application of policy / pay procedures..
Build relationships with union representatives and work with them in taking forward new policies / negotiations.
Liaise with the Occupational Health department and managers to provide effective absence management.
Work with managers to identify and sensitively resolve capability issues and manage these to a resolution.
Support and encourage a culture of employee engagement within employee surveys and continuous improvement initiatives.
Actively support and advise managers on market trends and up to date employment legislation and good employment practice for the successful management of day-to-day HR.
Support line managers to effectively recruit for their areas either internally or externally.
Develop and deliver management training courses on HR policies.
Facilitate HR workshops.
Ensure changes in employment law are integrated into HR policies and practices.
Encourage employees regarding the importance of following HR processes.
Involvement in the administration of annual salary reviews, wage negotiations and bonus schemes.
Provide internal communication of a non-standard nature for recognising achievements, promotions, qualifications, recruitment etc
Support the efficient administration and operation of HR systems and a time and attendance system.
Work on ad hoc projects in conjunction with the Human Resource Manager.
Support the Human Resource Manager in the production of HR information direct to line managers and within the department to meet the needs of business requirements (i.e. headcount, absence reporting)
Deputise for the Human Resource Manager.
Produce various reports and statistics as required
Manage talent review process to its completion.

Qualifications

A first degree from a recongnized university
A higher dimpla in Human Resources from a recognized institution will be an advantage
A valid membership and Practising Licence from the Institue Human Resource Management (IHRM-K)

Experience

At least five (5) years’ experience, two (2) of which must be at a middle management level in a manufacturing set up or similar challenging and busy environment
Be conversant with the Labor Act, WIBA and all related employment Acts and regulations
Proven experience in working in a unionized environment and handling CBA negotiations
Experience of administering HR Systems will be an added advantage
Ability to maintain confidentiality at the highest level and be assertive, yet professional in dealing with requests
