JOB PURPOSE
This position is at the heart of technical issues relating to electrical power distribution networks. As such, the technical design office manager will lead a genuine technical and technological hub, and a pool of skills and expertise serving the operational units (Operations, Construction). This role requires expertise in technical design coupled with experience in international or multicultural projects to ensure the adoption of global best practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out project Prefeasibility Studies
Propose optimal technical and economic solutions
Carry out technical feasibility Studies for various projects
Update distribution network diagrams
Update project databases
Standardize costs of distribution network works
Production of tender documents for distribution line projects.
Carry out environmental impact studies for projects in the prefeasibility studies and feasibility studies phases
Participate in the analysis of operational performance of commissioned projects through Business Value Assessments (BV) and Post Implementation Reviews (PIR).
Update the cost/benefit analysis of the various projects to be carried out;
Analyze the poles’ issues (wood, concrete, metal and other materials) for distribution networks.
Assess working tools, spares and logistics requirements and ensure they are provisioned
Manage the unit’s OPEX and CAPEX budget and resources
Prepares periodic activity reports and the annual budget of the processes and submits to the Engineering,
Organize tasks and set goals for his staffs
KEY COMPETENCIES
Project management and supervision skills
Proficiency in grid design methodology and software.
Strong knowledge of MV/LV lines and substation electrical components and their applications.
Knowledge of MV/LV lines and substation design and layout.
Knowledge of industry regulations and standards.
Experience in managing projects or teams in international or multicultural settings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 7 years of experience in electricity gird Design and design team leader or design unit manager.
Minimum of 2 years of international experience in electrical grid design or working on projects in multicultural environments.
Skills
Thorough understanding of engineering principles, practices, and tools.
Carry out the duties of the role in a professional and ethical manner and in accordance with Weza values and Code of Conduct requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is predominantly performed in a professional office environment but may need to be performed in a field environment which includes exposure to environmental conditions (hot, cold, and inclement weather) chemicals, fumes or airborne particles. The role will primarily be performed in Bujumbura, Burundi.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position is primarily sedentary and must be able to lift and carry up to 10 kg.
