Head of Finance and Accounting

Job Summary

The Head of Finance and Accounting will be responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction of the finance and accounting functions at the Clinic. This role involves overseeing financial planning, budgeting, and financial reporting, as well as ensuring that all financial operations are conducted within budget and in compliance with regulatory standards. The successful candidate will also supervise and mentor the accounting team (team of 3), fostering a high-performing department that contributes to the clinic’s operational efficiency and financial health.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Planning and Budgeting:

Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring that realistic financial goals are set and aligned with the clinic’s strategic objectives.
Monitor and analyze financial performance against the budget, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Provide financial forecasts to aid in long-term planning and decision-making.
Support clinic leadership in making informed financial decisions by presenting accurate and insightful financial analyses.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

Oversee the preparation and timely submission of accurate financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Ensure that all financial records comply with regulatory standards and internal policies.
Coordinate audits and work with external auditors to facilitate timely completion and accurate reporting.
Prepare financial reports for board meetings, presenting findings and recommending improvements to clinic operations.

Cash Flow and Treasury Management:

Monitor cash flow to ensure the clinic has adequate liquidity to meet its obligations and manage working capital efficiently.
Develop and implement cash management strategies that maximize returns and minimize risks.
Oversee the accounts receivable function, ensuring timely collection and resolving any issues related to outstanding debts from insurance companies and other clients.

Departmental Leadership and Staff Supervision:

Manage and supervise the finance and accounting team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to junior accountants and other team members.
Conduct regular performance reviews, set objectives, and foster a collaborative, results-driven work environment.
Identify and implement professional development opportunities for team members to improve their skills and knowledge.

Internal Controls and Risk Management:

Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal controls to safeguard the clinic’s financial resources.
Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies to minimize exposure.
Regularly review and update financial policies and procedures to align with best practices.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

Serve as the primary point of contact for financial matters with internal and external stakeholders, including clinic leadership, insurance companies, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
Communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner, ensuring that non-financial staff understand the financial implications of their decisions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA, ACCA, or CFA certification is preferred. A master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
Experience: At least 5-7 years of experience in a finance or accounting role, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience in the healthcare industry or with insurance-related accounting is highly desirable.
