What You will Do
Act as Grants and Finance Business Partner to the Director of Programmes
Lead the preparation and monitoring of accurate proposal budgets and forecasts for all grants, scrutinising direct and indirect cost coverage, financial alignment with project work plans and donor requirements.
Review donor contracts and flag anything that may pose issues, and support contract negotiations.
Set up and track overview and maintenance of all grants, donor requirements, rules and regulations, and internal and external deadlines.
Work with Programme lead to develop programmes budget.
Manage all grant documentation for audit purposes.
Coordinate the development of monthly internal reporting on grants and funding, variance analysis and exception-based reporting.
Supervise the production of grant/contract financial reports, including contract billing and project cash flow forecasting/management.
Develop costings of standard activity items within the Girl Effect programme menu
Review Country Programme balance sheet accounts, analysing key trends and material variations.
Lead the monthly grants/financial close processes, for all stages of the programme cycle, with particular focus on setup and end of all grants.
Support the Finance Team in the production of financial information for grant/statutory audits
Provide input into the recruitment and selection of Country Finance Managers and training and development
Recruit and manage grants officers as and when needed for particular grants
Work closely with budget holders, and programme teams as other stakeholders to implement the above
All global staff are expected to undertake the following duties:
Work within the framework of Girl Effect’s core values, promoting its ethos and mission statement.

Ensure familiarity with and adhere to all Girl Effect policies and procedures and keep informed of Girl Effect
Travel overseas to support Girl Effect programmes as and when required.

Work Experience and Education Required
Academic Qualifications
Minimum part-Qualified ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent
Additional Qualifications
Essential Experience
Significant financial experience in an NGO environment
Experience of grant management of a range of donors as noted above
Excellent management accounting experience, including a proactive approach to budget monitoring, reporting etc.
Experience of working on grant audit
Extensive experience of implementing and ensuring compliance with internal financial controls and procedures
Demonstrable ability to think and plan ahead and identify areas of future concern and organisational risks
Substantial experience of using mid-range accounting systems
Proven experience of introducing and managing grants systems, procedures, or practices
Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures
Essential Skills and Knowledge
Strong assessment skills, able to gather information from diverse sources tactfully, converting findings into detailed, actionable solutions
Utilising Excel at an advanced level to add value to business processes and reporting
A constructive and clear communication style on financial and non-financial matters, with excellent verbal and written English
