General Manager: Business Development

Job Summary:

The General Manager: Business Development is responsible for driving the overall business growth and market expansion strategy of Geminia Life Insurance Company. This role involves leading sales, partnerships, and market penetration initiatives while ensuring revenue and profitability targets are met. The incumbent will oversee a high-performing sales team, develop strategic alliances, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Business Growth & Planning

Develop and implement the company’s business development strategy to drive revenue growth and market share.
Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and market segments to expand the company’s footprint.
Conduct market research and competitor analysis to stay ahead of industry trends.
Set and monitor business development goals, KPIs, and performance metrics.

Sales & Distribution Management

Oversee the sales team, ensuring high performance through training, mentorship, and incentives.
Develop and execute sales strategies that align with the company’s strategic goals.
Strengthen distribution channels, including agency networks, bancassurance, digital platforms, and corporate partnerships.
Drive customer acquisition and retention strategies to maximize policy uptake.

Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement

Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including brokers, agents, corporate clients, and regulators.
Negotiate and manage partnerships to enhance product offerings and market reach.
Represent the company in industry forums, conferences, Seminars and networking events to boost brand visibility.

Product Development & Innovation

Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, and product development teams to design competitive life insurance products.
Ensure the alignment of product offerings with market demands and customer needs.
Drive innovation in digital sales and customer experience strategies.
Oversee the collection of feedback on developed products and champion the improvement of current products.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure adherence to insurance law, regulations, and industry best practices.
Liaise with the risk and compliance team to mitigate business risks.
Implement effective governance structures within the business development function.

Financial Management & Reporting

Develop and manage the business development budget, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
Provide regular reports on sales performance, market trends, and revenue forecasts.
Drive profitability and cost-efficiency in all business development initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Business administration, Finance, or a related field. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Professional qualifications in insurance (e.g., ACII) are preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development within the insurance sector, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Strong understanding of life insurance products, distribution channels, and regulatory environment.
Proven track record of driving business growth and achieving sales targets.
Experience in managing sales teams and multiple distribution channels.
