YOUR ROLE
We distribute water to communities using water bowsers and tuk-tuks. It is imperative that these vehicles operate reliably as communities come to depend on us for their water supply. As a Fleet Mechanic you shall be responsible for organizing the procurement and fabrication for new vehicles ensuring maximum effectiveness at the most reasonable price. You will also develop and execute routine maintenance plans and coordinate emergency repairs of vehicles in the company’s local fleet to ensure smooth and safe operation with minimal down time.
Duties and responsibilities
At all times be a good ambassador for the company, keeping our Mission and Values top of mind in all engagements with and decisions affecting customers
Regularly inspect vehicles and recommend any repairs or modifications that may be needed to ensure optimal vehicle performance and in consultation with the GSWFMM coordinate these with designated outside vendors (franchise holders or dealers)
Coordinate the procurement of new vehicles and the fabrication of tanks and other aftermarket equipment, as required
Diagnose problems with vehicles to determine the cause of malfunctions or breakdowns, identify broken or dysfunctional parts and where possible replace or repair them
Estimate labor, material and equipment required to complete internal repairs as required
Maintain records on all purchases, maintenance and repair work performed, service dates, inspection dates and warranties for all vehicles
Ensure bowser and tuk-tuk tanks are cleaned regularly according to GivePower’s defined standards
Perform final operational test on all vehicles to quality-check any work done external vendors
Communicate with the GSWFMM manager and Site Managers to inform them about the current state of the fleet
Where required, provide emergency roadside services, minor repairs and assist in vehicle recovery
Maintain equipment and tools in good condition
Assist in training drivers on proper use of vehicles and maintenance procedures
Recommend new technologies that could improve fleet efficiency or safety
Develop and maintain close internal working relationships at all levels and collaborate with colleagues to improve teamwork, productivity, sales and customer satisfaction
Execute on other duties and work schedules as assigned by the GSWFMM
Adhere to all company policies and regulations
Desired Attributes
Fluent in English and Swahili
Post-secondary certification (KNEC Diploma in Automotive Engineering)
Strong understanding of the mechanics of vehicles (including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and hydraulics), auto maintenance, and diagnostic technologies in order to perform inspections, identify problems, and recommend solutions quickly and accurately
Minimum 2 years’ experience as an auto mechanic in a busy environment
Valid driver’s license (at least Kenya classes BCE), good driving skills and a clean driving record
Able to read and interpret maintenance, repair, and parts manuals
Excellent attention to detail to ensure performance of necessary maintenance correctly
Able to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with people effectively
Able to work in a team, accept criticism and work well under pressure
Able to travel
Willing to work flexible hours including late or early hours, weekends, and holidays and on shifts to support a 7-day week coverage
Clean and presentable during all working hours
