Position Description and Key Responsibilities
The Finance and Operations Manager at Laterite will play a hands-on role in managing accounting and finance functions, and improving operations, including:

Strengthening accounting systems and processes. The Finance and Operations Manager (FOM) will be responsible for strengthening existing accounting systems and processes, with a focus on increasing efficiency, while maintaining high standards of accounting & tax compliance. This includes the management and professional development of Laterite’s accounting and office management teams. It will also include regular quality checks on accounts.
Financial management and forecasting. The Finance and Operations Manager will be responsible for corporate financial management at Laterite in Rwanda. This will include: financial planning, monitoring profitability across projects and activities, ensuring regular financial forecasting and providing critical advice to the Senior Management Team.
Preparing and reviewing short and long term budget. Together with the Country Director, the Finance and Operations Manager will be responsible for preparing an annual budget for Laterite’s Operations in Rwanda, which will be reviewed by the Board. The Finance and Operations Manager will also be responsible for reviewing and approving project budgets for clients and internally for project expenses.
Resource management. The Finance and Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the management of Laterite’s non-human resources.
Expense management and negotiations with suppliers. The Finance and Operations Manager will be responsible for:

approving certain project-related expenses
increasing our cost-efficiency by diversifying and improving agreements with suppliers.

Overseeing business improvement projects: Laterite is continuously seeking to improve, innovate, and make Laterite a great place to work. The Finance and Operations Manager will oversee these projects, helping ensure that we prioritize the right areas and dedicate sufficient resource to make improvements happen.
Finance and Operations Managers are part of Laterite’s Senior Management Team and have a voice in project selection, corporate strategy and process improvements. They serve as role models for the team, actively promote our corporate culture and help us as an organization achieve our mission.

Profile
Ideal candidates are passionate about accounting and corporate finance and are willing to commit to work with Laterite in Rwanda, for at least two years.

They have a CA or CFA qualification, or a MBA or Master Degree related to Finance or Management from a leading university.They have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
They have an analytical and detail-oriented mindset.
They can quickly grasp accounting and financial issues and have a very structured approach to problem solving.
They have solid project management skills and are able to manage teams in a fast-paced environment, where timelines can often be unpredictable.They also have outstanding written and oral communication skills (in English), and are able to effectively communicate internally and externally.
They are leaders who can motivate our teams, promote our corporate culture and drive innovation at Laterite.
