Field Security Specialist III (Nairobi)

This security specialist plans and implements the organization’s global security programs. This position provides leadership, training, and direction to staff and leaders throughout the organization. The specialist further provides risk mitigation analysis and guidance on general and specific international security and safety programs and current risks to Compassion interests. At this career level, the incumbent maintains a strong, functional, problem-solving oriented and relationship-based consulting network inside and outside the organization to best serve and advise Compassion stakeholders in security matters for their assigned region.

Responsibilities

Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.
Will provide security support to multiple surrounding countries as required. Occasional travel for security assessments, security training, and management consultations will be required to other countries.
Develops and implements security programs by region, exercising excellent professional judgment and advising the organization on threat assessments, security and safety procedures, and risk mitigation options, to ensure alignment with industry standards and best business practices, or as directed by federal law or international governmental bodies.
Evaluates security and safety aspects of tours, employee travel, and field office procedures, ensuring sound practices and sound decision. Conducts safety and security inspections in the field for Compassion facilities and FCPs and implements security and safety practices and training regarding situational awareness, crisis prevention, crisis management and response, threat scenario action steps, evacuation strategies, proper reporting procedures, and other security protocols.
Serves as a leader and may direct the response to emergency situations involving accidents, injury, hazardous materials, or fire and smoke incidents; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations. Analyzes accident and incident reports for trends; makes recommendations for correcting unsecure or unsafe conditions and actions. Evaluates individual risk issues and conducts employee consultations when such issues arise.
Serves as a liaison between the International Security Team Leadership and other individuals, divisions, and departments throughout the organization, proactively communicating and coordinating the flow of timely information to the appropriate organizational decision-makers, as well as working with law enforcement entities as needed, and testifying in court as necessary.
Studies and filters threat development information daily and researches the specific security-relevant geopolitical, social, and environmental issues of interest to Compassion programs.
Serves as expert member of the Domestic Security Team and responds to domestic physical security incidents and emergencies as required.
Reports criminal information to authorities (as needed), works with law enforcement in the investigation of crimes against the organization, and testifies in court as necessary. Practices discretion and upholds confidentiality at all times.
Frequently coaches, provides expertise, and may oversee the work of other professionals and support staff in the department or division.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.

Experience

Seven years Relevant experience working in this or a related field.
