Faculty Development Officer

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director, Quality Assuarance, the office holder will coordinate activities related to faculty development with the purpose of enhancing the teaching effectiveness. This entails identifying faculty development needs, planning and conducting faculty trainings, and assessing the impact of the trainings.

Duties and Responsibilities

Liaise with the school administrators to identify faculty development needs.
Liaise with the school administrators to plan faculty trainings.
Plan and conduct new faculty orientation and educational effectiveness workshops.
Working very closely with USIU-Africa Online, support individual faculty in applying appropriate teaching/learning principles.
Identify and recommend external training programs in pedagogy and andragogy for faculty.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the trainings conducted.
Track and report on improvement in teaching and learning resulting from faculty development workshops.
Establish a pool of internal and external facilitators for the identified regular faculty development workshops.
Support the planning for the annual quality assurance symposia and the hosting of pedagogical conferences by the university.
Maintain up-to-date faculty training records.
Design training materials and tools such as manuals, handbooks, training curricula and guidelines.
Engage with curriculum implementation through the teaching of one or two courses per academic year (depending on the workload of the core job function).
Prepare and submit to the Quality Assurance Director semester reports detailing faculty skill gaps and the training effected to fill those gaps.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Quality Assurance.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Education with specialization in Pedagogy, Curriculum and Instruction or a related area.
Minimum five years’ instruction or training experience at university level.
Knowledge of pedagogy and andragogy principles, instructional design, training methodologies, learning management systems and competency assessment.
