Key Responsibilities
Handle the day-to-day EOHS activities at ILRI Kapiti Research Station
Propose inputs to EOHS policies, programs, and procedures and monitor their implementation as applicable
Assist ILRI Kapiti Research Station in complying with the current EOHS legislation and regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety and health of employees and visitors, and the environment
Handle the planning/organization of the external EOHS audits and keeping records of inspections’ findings and produce reports that suggest improvements and follow up to ensure closing in on identified gaps
Provide inputs to the Kapiti EOHS budget proposals for the operation of EOHS and specific training programs for ILRI Kapiti Research Station
Handle EOHS activities and programs for the ILRI Kapiti Research Station Safety and Health Committee
Investigate and report all accidents occurring to employees and visitors in consultation with ILRI Kapiti Research Station Safety and Health Committee
investigate and report on complaints of hazardous working conditions in consultation with ILRI Kapiti Research Station Safety and Health Committee
Arrange for EOHS testing and/or evaluations of the workplace and or installations by external service providers/consultants as may be necessary
Coordinate the training of employees and others as may be necessary in areas of EOHS including first aid, accident prevention and investigation, workplace inspections and any other matters related to implementing EOHS procedures
Increase EOHS awareness at all levels within ILRI Kapiti Research Station
Handle EOHS inductions for all employees as per EOHS policy and procedures
Assist employees and visitors in emergency preparedness
Handle EOHS related queries and clarifications
Perform any other duties as may be assigned
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with 2 years’ experience in environmental science, occupational safety and health or relevant field or Diploma with 4 years in environmental science, occupational safety and health or relevant field
Understanding and knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks in Kenya and international standards on EOHS
Demonstrated proficiency in safety program implementation & operation
Adept at utilization of organisation wide system for reporting EOHS data and information
Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English with strong writing skills.
Ability to work with minimum supervision with a positive and constructive attitude.
