Environment, Health and Safety Officer

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Safety, Health and Environment, the successful candidate will be directly responsible for supporting institutional OSH & E Function to ensure a safe and heathy workplace is created and that operations are environmentally sustainable, posing no/minimal risk to the staff, patients, public and environment. This will be achieved by championing for compliance to the National Environmental, Health and Safety legislation, regulatory requirements, AKHK OSH & E policies and industry best practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and safety Act, 2007, Environmental Management and Coordination Act, 1999 and related Regulations.
Support implementation of institutions OSH & E policy framework and procedures in accordance with the OSH Act.
Support Coordination of OSH Committee functions as per Legal Notice No. 31
Advise on practicable techniques/initiatives to ensure sustainable use and management of natural resources in the facility i.e., water and Energy.
Support Coordination of Annual Statutory Audits
Monitor quarterly water and wastewater analysis reports, develop action points following negative result and follow up closure.
Monitor and support Compliance of site waste management with the requirements of EMCA (Waste management) regulations.
Communicate environmental conservation messages to employees and management through meetings, sensitization forums etc.
In Liaison with FMS develop and compile monthly water and energy reports that will inform conservation decisions
Support coordination of staff health and safety trainings and sensitization
Keeping up to date records to support AKHK Health and safety Management system.
Support all other OSH & E functions as delegated by the OSH & E Manager
Take part in the hospital climate change agenda.

REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University / Institute in Environmental Science, Occupational safety and Health or related field.
At least two years’ relevant work experience
Membership to a professional body an added advantage
Demonstrable knowledge of business development and marketing skills to promote Health Services
Training in QMS, FSMS, EMS Firefighting and First Aid will be added advantage.
Expert knowledge of the OSHA, WIBA. EMCA and subsidiary legislations.
Effective communication skills, including written, verbal, and listening skills.
Organized planner, capable of prioritizing tasks and multitasking efficiently.
Team player that can adapt to a fast pace and changing environment.
Ability to interpret and analyze data.
