Position Overview: We are seeking an innovative and experienced Engineering Lead with a passion for both creative design and advanced manufacturing techniques. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of artistic creativity, technical expertise, and leadership skills to oversee the design and manufacturing process for a variety of projects, particularly focusing on sculptures and artistic installations. This role requires proficiency in CAD/CAM/CFD, additive manufacturing technologies, CNC machining, and material science, with a proven track record of optimizing design efficiency and leading interdisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
Design and Manufacturing Leadership: Lead the design and manufacturing process from concept to completion, collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams including designers, engineers, and artisans.
Creative Design Integration: Work closely with creative designers to translate artistic concepts into manufacturable designs, ensuring feasibility and efficiency without compromising artistic integrity.
Advanced Manufacturing Expertise: Utilize expertise in CNC machining (including Hotwire CNC), additive manufacturing technologies (FDM, SLA, SLS), and traditional fabrication methods (such as Styrofoam, EPS, XPS, fiberglass, and carbon fiber) to bring designs to life.
Parametric and Organic Design: Employ parametric and organic design principles to create complex and visually stunning sculptures and installations.
Optimization and Cost Reduction: Identify opportunities to optimize design efficiency, reduce lead times, and minimize manufacturing costs without sacrificing quality or artistic vision.
Team Leadership and Collaboration: Lead interdisciplinary teams, providing mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise to ensure project success.
Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in design and manufacturing, implementing best practices and innovative solutions to enhance processes and capabilities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Proven experience in design and manufacturing, with a focus on artistic or sculptural projects.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM/CFD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS) and additive manufacturing technologies.
Extensive knowledge of CNC machining techniques and materials (Styrofoam, EPS, XPS, fiberglass, carbon fiber).
Strong understanding of parametric and organic design principles, with a keen eye for aesthetics and creativity.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and disciplines.
Demonstrated track record of project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Previous experience in key positions such as design lead, manufacturing manager, or technical director preferred.
