Electrician

Role Summary

Undertake a variety of tasks relating to setting up and maintaining electrical infrastructure. S/He should be able to maintain well-functioning electrical connections to minimize the probability of accidents and maximize usability of electricity within the school facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical systems.
Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify any issues that may require repair or maintenance.
Install electrical apparatus, fixtures and equipment for alarm and other systems.
Install safety and distribution components (e.g. switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components.
Prepare and assemble conduits and connect wiring through them.
Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables, cleaning circuits etc.
Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units
Keep the Facilities Manager or Head Teacher informed of any potential risks and recommend alleviation plans.
Continuous power connectivity with seamless interchange during blackouts.
24-hour turnaround on rectification of any major electrical breakdown to ensure operations within the school is not disrupted. 
Existence of an analysis of continuous faults and rectification, periodic maintenance of all electrical appliances, motors, transformers, and instrumentation. This is proactive maintenance and should be carried out on a daily basis.
Availability of spares:  your job will also include maintaining and procuring spare parts as required.

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

A Diploma/Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
Experience in industrial/commercial electrical systems.
Learning institution experience would be an added advantage.
At least 2 years’ experience.
