PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Power Generation and Distribution Lead who will be responsible for Lipton Tea and Infusions power generation and distribution infrastructure covering Hydro Machinery, Diesel Engines, Power Distribution Equipment etc to support 24/7 service uptime and business continuity planning. This position requires an individual with a strong technical and leadership background, as well as ability to work with multiple stakeholders to align priorities and plans with key business objectives. The Power Generation and Distribution Lead will provide direction for the power generation and distribution infrastructure, maintenance strategies, legal compliance, generation efficiency, service reliability and cost management. He/she will closely work with the Lipton manufacturing department, estates, national grid service provider among other stakeholders to ensure best-in-class service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Power Generation and Distribution
Provide direction in maintenance and management of all power generation and distribution facilities.
Enforce adherence to planned preventive maintenance of all power distribution systems including poles, powerlines, transformers, and powerline furniture.
Responsible for renewal and maintenance of company EPRA license for power generation and distribution.
Ensure maintenance of a library of wiring diagrams for all power lines and power generation systems.
Ensure compliance to implementation of safety inspection procedures and standards for all power generation and distribution operations.
Ensure regular audits on powerlines are carried out as laid down in defined Lipton and EPRA standards.
Maintenance and Repairs
Lead and provide assurance for implementation of electrical preventive maintenance and repairs of all equipment and machinery in the power houses and power distribution system.
Implement and be responsible for an effective spare parts management for electrical material and spares orders at Central Engineering transit store and factory stores to ensure timely turnaround of EJRs. (ordering correct quantities, fit for purpose, financial controls)
Lead and direct 3P services including audits, generator preventive maintenance service etc, and other specialist 3Ps to ensure cost effectiveness, compliance to quality standards and timeliness.
Administration
Responsible for implementing standards for electrical systems.
Take lead in planning of key jobs delivered in power generation and distribution section.
Responsible for the power generation and distribution section operating budget and enforcing financial controls.
Responsible for fixed assets management (capital proposals, fixed assets acquisition, asset movement etc).
Responsible for stocks and stores management and accounting (clearance and reconciliation) and upkeep for generation and distribution section fuel and materials.
Responsible for internal controls for all aspects of power generation and distribution section (spare parts utilisation, reconciliation of IRs, PRs, audits, etc).
Responsible for implementing internal and external controls audit actions.
Responsible for enforcement of Code of Business Principles (COBP) actions.
Responsible for stocks and stores security for power generation and distribution section (fuel, materials, etc).
Responsible for performance reviews of power generation and distribution section staff.
Responsible for process performance and control in electrical operations and correction of performance deviation.
Responsible for ER/IR issues for electrical section.
Responsible for effective functioning of operational systems that interface with other consumers and service providers e.g. manufacturing sites, materials ordering, Kenya Power, etc.
Responsible for assuring compliance to regulatory authority standards that govern power generation and distribution operations in the business.
Responsible for periodic (daily/monthly/quarterly/annual) operational (generation/service/cost) reports.
Contractor Management
Providing leadership in implementing a contractor management system for management of power generation and distribution 3P contractors.
Giving direction on management of power generation and distribution projects to ensure delivery within specifications, time, and cost.
Regularly interface with contractors/consultants to ensure compliance to company standards and regulatory authority standards.
Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE)
Taking leadership in ensuring all SHE standards and procedures within power generation and distribution systems are complied with.
Accountable for ensuring closure of all electrical SHE actions within power generation and distribution section.
Enforcing application of all company defined SHE policies, procedures and systems in tasks and operations undertaken in power generation and distribution.
Ensuring operationalization of Lipton SHE Electrical Standards.
Responsible for incident investigations and closure of actions for power generation and distribution section.
Technical Training and Development
Taking lead in employee continuous professional development for powerhouse and power distribution electricians.
Planning and executing regular electrical engineering skills development for generation and distribution staff.
Taking knowledge leadership in ensuring new technologies and systems for electrical operations are implemented in the power houses and distribution systems.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
Degree Qualification in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent.
Licensed with EPRA class B.
Relevant years of experience in medium voltage and low voltage power generation and distribution, part of which should include supervisory responsibilities.
Should have experience in power generation mix including hydros, Diesel Engines and Solar PV Plants.
Demonstrated business acumen with proven ability to anticipate issues and provide electrical solutions to solve business problems.
Experience and ability to lead an operational function with strong mindset for continuous improvement.
Experience in leading electrical design, installation, and maintenance scope and teams.
Collaborative and team player with good verbal and written communication skills.
Business-driven, people-focused, with exceptional organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills.
