About the Role:
Our client, a leading manufacturer of edible oils and soaps, is seeking an experienced and dedicated EHS and Systems Manager to ensure environmental, health, and safety compliance and to implement and maintain quality management systems in the company. This is a key role responsible for managing the EHS functions and ensuring that the organization meets the required standards for food safety, health, safety, and environmental management.
Key Responsibilities:
EHS Management: Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance with both local and international regulations.
Risk Assessment & Safety Programs: Conduct risk assessments, ensure workplace safety programs are in place, and investigate incidents and accidents to implement corrective actions.
ISO Standards Implementation: Implement, maintain, and improve ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management), and ISO 22000/FSSC 22000 (Food Safety Management Systems) in alignment with organizational goals.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to Kenyan EHS regulations, including NEMA, DOSHS, KEBS, and relevant industry standards, ensuring compliance in all operations.
Training & Awareness: Conduct training and awareness programs for staff on EHS, food safety practices, and emergency response procedures.
Audit & Inspection: Perform regular EHS audits and inspections, ensuring compliance and identifying areas for improvement.
Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas of risk, inefficiencies, and opportunities to enhance safety, environmental practices, and quality management systems.
Incident Reporting & Investigation: Oversee the reporting, investigation, and analysis of incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective measures.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate and communicate with various departments, ensuring the alignment of safety practices with operational goals.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records and documentation related to EHS and quality systems, and report to management and regulatory bodies as needed.
Education & Professional Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Food Science, or a related field.
Certifications in EHS & Quality Systems such as:
NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems).
ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management).
ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 (Food Safety Management Systems).
Registration with relevant Kenyan authorities, such as
National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS).
Experience:
5+ years of experience in EHS and systems management, preferably within the food processing or edible oils industry.
Proven track record of implementing and maintaining ISO standards (14001, 45001, 22000/FSSC 22000).
Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and driving workplace safety programs.
Familiarity with Kenyan EHS and food safety regulations, including KEBS, NEMA, and DOSHS guidelines.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in Kenya and international best practices.
Ability to develop and implement EHS policies and systems to ensure workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
Deep understanding of food safety systems, ensuring product quality and compliance with edible oil industry standards.
Proven experience in training and raising awareness on EHS, food safety, and emergency response among staff.
Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively engage stakeholders across departments.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities for continuous improvement initiatives in EHS and systems management.
Proficiency in incident reporting systems and leading root cause analysis and corrective actions.
