Background and Opportunity Description:
Off-grid solar technologies provide life-changing access to modern energy services for people and communities currently living without electricity.E-waste generated by the off-grid solar sector represents less than 0.1% of global e-waste streams, but investment now will ensure the industry’s growth is sustainable over the long term and further enhance the sector’s reputation as a leader in environmental responsibility.
As a Global LEAP Solar E-Waste Challenge winner, d.light has developed a project aimed at incentivizing customers to dispose of End of Life (EoL) and Out of Warranty (OOW) solar products.
Through a targeted consumer awareness campaign, the project will encourage customers to buy new solar products at a discounted rate, when the old products cannot be repaired, thus preventing a return to the use of oil lamps and candles.
Working with / reporting to:
Quality Assurance Manager and Strategic Partnerships Manager
Core Activities:
Train staff and agents on the purpose of the project and the means of achieving the goals
Monitoring of project progress across North-Rift and South-Rift regions, and continuous re-design and deployment of additional techniques to ensure that goals are achieved
Coordinating with the Marketing Team to design marketing materials to increase awareness about the project
Design, procurement and placement of collection bins
Design and implementation of data collection system at point of collection
Management of solar waste collection and reverse logistics
Creation and management of database to categorize all types of solar waste
Coordination with local and head-office staff
Budget management
Organization and management of site visits from donors
Project report writing
All candidates must have:
Project management experience
Clear examples of working in technical environments (preferably electrical or electronic experience). Ability to categorize the components in a solar system
Exceptional attention to detail
Excellent people skills
Skills in building consensus across functions and cultures
Experience building and managing databases
Training/capacity building experience (for people with limited education)
Creative experience, working on marketing campaigns (particularly for low-income households)
Native-level fluency in English
Excellent writing skills
