JOB PURPOSE:
The jobholder is responsible for providing strategic and academic leadership in learning, teaching, and research in the Strathmore undergraduate school.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Client Experience
Ensure that the school’s examination process is in line with the University’s and higher education standards by overseeing the internal and external exam moderation, exam administration, and marking. This will also include identification and recruitment of examiners and following up students’ performance feedback from course evaluators.
To develop and lead initiatives to improve the student experience in the school’s undergraduate programs.RE-R
Faculty Management
Support strategic talent sourcing by working in collaboration with the Dean and the Director for People and Culture to recruit, orient and evaluate the teaching staff, both full and part-time.
Prepare peer review reports ensure lecturers’ reports are prepared and submitted to the Dean.
Promote Academic Staff development in conjunction with the Faculty Management department by organizing staff seminars, identifying staff training needs and assisting the Dean in ensuring skills bridging for the faculty staff is implemented.
Quality Assurance
In conjunction with the school marketing unit, develop and undertake marketing activities to promote the undergraduate programs.
Participate in the management of the development, accreditation and evaluation processes for the undergraduate programs.
Participate in the production of reports to the Academic Council, Management Board, College Management Board, Accreditation bodies, the annual report etc. as may be required.
Program and Curriculum Development
Oversee course distribution by preparing a four-year plan on course distribution for each cohort and allocating workload to lecturers.
Ensure quality delivery of academic programs by ensuring program leaders prepare comprehensive course outlines and course files, oversee course delivery methodology by program leaders and work in collaboration with the University Librarian to ensure availability of textbooks and course materials in the library.
Ensure that the school course curricula is responsive to the market needs by working closely with faculty to periodically review programs, curricula and coordinate curriculum development activities.
Financial and Operational Responsibility
Develop and manage departmental budget and financial resources allocated to department in consultation with the Manager and Associate Dean, Academics and Student Affairs.
Overall responsibility for disciplinary action for the department.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The post holder will be required to have and to demonstrate evidence of the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:
Doctorate Degree in any related field from a recognized institution.
Membership to a professional body.
At least 10 years’ experience in teaching, research, supervision, grants application, and administration with at least 5 years in management role.
Experience holding the position of Senior Lecturer.
Ability to effectively present information to the University Council, top management and/or public groups.
