Over all purpose
Overseeing the Standards and Compliance Department at the NCR.
Duties and responsibilities
Formulating, implementing and reviewing nursing and midwifery education and practice Standards and Compliance policy and guidelines
Overseeing the processing of applications for private practitioners for nurses and midwives
Spearheading the inquiry process into alleged professional misconduct;
Supervising the accreditation process of nursing and midwifery programmes; Coordinating regular compliance audits in nursing & midwifery training institutions and health facilities;
Responsible for maintenance of information on nursing and midwifery training institutions, placement sites, internship centers and private practitioners in the database; Coordinating NCK participation in joint inspection together with other regulatory Councils and councils;
Coordinating the carrying of research and studies on nursing and midwifery standards matters
Coordination of management of departmental correspondences and responses to inquiries;
Monitoring and evaluating standards and quality assurance department activities; Preparing annual budget and work plan of standards and quality assurance activities; Coordinating setting and implementation of departmental targets and appraising staff performance;
Coordinating identification and implementation of risk mitigation at the department; Managing the controlled NCK quality documents, enforcing quality assurance policy; Foster a culture that promotes delivery of quality services, and reflects the values which facilitate performance and professionalism by staff throughout the Council;
Providing oversight in development of departmental annual procurement plan and budget;
Qualifications and Person specifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
Served in the grade of Deputy Director, Standards and Compliance ()fficer for a minimum period of three (3) years or twelve (12) years’ experience in a comparable and relevant position in Public or Private institution, five (5) years of which should be at senior management position
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Midwifery from a recognized institution
Master’s Degree in Nursing and Midwifery or any health-related field from a recognized institution;
Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya; Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya;
Membership of professional association of good standing
Certificate in Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution
Proficiency in computer application skills; and demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and result.
