AHN is looking for a highly skilled and dedicated team member for the role of Director of Nursing. In this position, the Director of Nursing is responsible for hiring standards and competencies, training and continuing education, oversight of audits, and nursing policies and procedures. While the nursing teams in Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda will report up through country line management for administrative matters, the Director of Nursing is the senior-most nurse that is accountable for the systemic quality and performance assessment of our nursing teams. This role requires someone with strong working experience in both clinical and management positions, who is passionate about empowering nurses and caring for patients.

Key Responsibilities:
Hiring Standards and Competencies:
Define minimal qualifications for new hires, in partnership with Country Directors
Help design the interview process, ensuring an efficient and effective approach to bringing top quality nursing talent to AHN
Work with leading international bodies to define the specific competencies expected of AHN nurses
Manage Nursing JDs for new nursing hires and nursing team members
Own Nursing Performance Management processes with HR, overseeing implementation at a country level
Clinical Quality Assurance:
Own audit content development and revisions
Ensure audits are done on-time across all countries, with high quality and integrity
Lead the integration of new technologies to enhance audit processes
Participate in country level audit and KPI reviews, and conduct needs-based analysis on training/knowledge gaps within the organization
Working with Country Directors and clinical leadership to identify, through quality assurance processes, key gaps in country and developing targeted action plans for implementation
Oversee Clinical Incident Reporting and Management processes, with steps to identify the root cause of the incident or near miss, working with country leadership to develop corrective and preventative action plans
Identifying and managing potential risk and hazards in clinical dialysis settings – including developing risk assessment tools, implementing preventative measures and creating systems to mitigate risk
Ensure morbidity and mortality (M&M) meetings are occurring at a country level on a monthly basis, making sure the meeting follows the guideline, is solution oriented, and has clear deliverables as outcomes.
Own Inventory Management processes, ensuring that calculations are correct and that we are clearly identifying significant over-usage and underusage as it pertains to quality
Training, Learning, & Development:
Work with Director of Training and Education to develop processes and guidelines for the training and management of training and trainees at AHN
Oversee the management of training across operational countries, in collaboration with the Director of Training and Education and Country Level Management
Promote a working environment where learning is supported and development is encouraged
Deliver trainings as required to nursing team members
Help review and approve training, learning and development budgets
Nursing Policies and Procedures:
Ensure that SOPs are reviewed annually by the Director of Education and Training
Ensure that policies are reviewed annually by the Director of Education and Training
Work in partnership with clinical leaders to develop and implement new policies as they pertain to nursing care at AHN
Ensure that AHN is compliant with all laws, regulations and practice guidelines as it pertains to dialysis and broader nursing practice
Build a nursing culture of policy and procedure adherence
Other:
Mentor, coach and help manage team members
Any other tasks as directed by the Executive Committee (ExCo)
