Job Purpose
The job of the Director of Credit Scoring is to establish credit scoring in its MFIs, and once implemented, conduct the ongoing score management (annual validation and calibration and evaluation as well as monthly monitoring) to ensure that the scores continue to be predictive, delivering the stated risk appetite.
Major Responsibilities
Scorecard implementation

Liaise with the vendor and with the VFI credit scoring project manager to ensure the implementation of the statistical credit score in the relevant MFIs.

Scorecard maintenance

Manage the review and maintenance of credit risk scoring models.
Annual validation and evaluation of the statistical credit score models in each MFI

Scorecard development

Build behavioural scores in MFIs which are not working with the vendor, and interface with Bank BI Credit Insights.
When existing scorecards are no longer predictive, overhaul and if necessary rebuild.
Lead the process of augmenting credit scores by building in new sources of data, as they become available and adjusting for new information (eg: availability of reject data).

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Required Professional Experience

At least 10+ years of experience in in statistical modelling / data analysis preferably in the financial industry/risk management
Project management experience – a proven track record in leading projects and managing complex analytical projects

Required Education, Training and Certifications

Statistical modelling / data analysis experience including data manipulation practice (R, Python, SAS or similar tools)
Bachelor’s degree in statistics and modelling or similar
Credit decision strategy and policy setting skills
In depth knowledge of analytical techniques and decision tools
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to gather and analyse business requirements
Strong communication and presentation skills needed to present both internal stakeholders and to our clients

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

A masters degree in finance, economics or statistics is preferred
Knowledge of SQL is an advantage
Experience managing statistical credit scores
Spanish language skills, to advanced/business level
2+ years’ experience in regional or global roles in microfinance (in multiple MFIs)
Experience living and working cross-culturally

Travel and Work Arrangements

The position requires ability and willingness to travel internationally, potentially 25% – 30% of the time.
Able to work from home if required
