Job Purpose
The Director of Credit is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the bank’s credit operations, ensuring sound risk management, and supporting the growth of the bank’s credit portfolio. This role involves strategic planning, policy development, and direct management of the credit team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in credit risk management, a deep understanding of commercial banking operations, and a proven track record of leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement the bank’s credit strategy in alignment with overall business objectives.
Lead the credit team to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial targets.
Provide strategic direction on credit risk management and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Policy And Procedure Development
Establish, review, and update credit policies and procedures to enhance credit quality and operational efficiency.
Ensure all credit policies are in line with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
Credit Risk Management
Oversee the assessment and management of credit risk across the bank’s portfolio.
Implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure the effective monitoring of credit exposures.
Conduct regular portfolio reviews and stress testing to identify and address potential risks.
Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing credit team.
Foster a culture of accountability, business partnership, continuous improvement, and excellence within the credit department.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback and development plans for team members
Loan Review And Approval
Member of the Country Credit Executive Committee
Oversee the evaluation and approval of significant credit applications.
Ensure thorough due diligence and adherence to credit underwriting standards.
Collaborate with relationship managers and other stakeholders to support credit decisions.
Reporting And Analytics
Provide regular reports to senior management and the board of directors on the credit portfolio’s performance and risk profile.
Utilize data analytics to enhance decision-making and identify emerging trends.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, and business partners.
Represent the bank in industry forums and participate in networking opportunities to stay abreast of market developments.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field. An MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Credit Risk management within a commercial banking environment, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
