About the job

We are looking for an outstanding educator to serve as Dean of Instruction and Learning and lead professional development for teachers at one of Nova Pioneer’s schools in Kenya. This is an opportunity to help create a transformative school model with the future of Africa’s youth at stake.
As a Dean of Instruction of Learning, serving on the school leadership team, you will help the Principal establish an extremely strong and vibrant school culture consistent with Nova Pioneer’s core culture principles. However, your primary focus is teacher development. Drawing on support from instructional leaders on Nova Pioneer’s network team, you will create a professional development “machine” inside the school: deliberate practice routines and management habits that stretch teachers professionally and give them higher quality, more intensive coaching than they can get anywhere else. You will build a pipeline of homegrown local teacher talent inside the school that produces master teachers and great instructional leaders over time.
You will play a critical role in delivering an exceptional 21st Century learning experience for our students.

About The Role
Key responsibilities for the role include:

Work with the School Principal to set the pedagogical vision of the school that is consistent with the Nova Instructional Model
Articulate professional growth paths for teachers that are consistent with the Nova Model.
Lead instructional sessions for parents such as during Open Days and Academic days.
Coordinate the exposure of students in outside school academic events such as symposiums (Internal and external).
Create a robust term schedule for all classes including the support session outside the MOE lesson guide. I.e Saturday academy and Evening program.
Collaboratively engage the parent Body on key academic programs by sharing analysis and being part of any PTA-related meeting from time to time.
Coordinate the compliance on Lesson attendance aligned to schedules shared for accountability purposes. Use of TLAR.
Coordinate academic consultation and flag any demeaned performance at the student level with their parents/Guardians.
Set up new parents Edana Portals for their Child data visibility.
Coordinate the registration of candidates for KCSE. Including document collection and the KNEC Portal set-up.
Organize and coordinate all academic meetings with parents and other stakeholders.
Give academic reports and updates during PTA meetings.
Oversee planning, execution and analysis of intervention programs targeted at needs of diverse academic subgroups, whether remedial or enrichment.
Coach teachers through extensive observation. and feedback
Lead in school walkthroughs and give feedback.
Supervise all professional development routines and activities across the school.
Include preparation of the PD arc for the school.
Lead teacher professional development programs at the school.
Facilitate collaboration among teachers within/across grade levels and subject areas.
Work with the School Principal to articulate a compelling short- and long-term vision for the development of the school’s culture and program.
Collect, analyze, share and interpret internal and external school assessment data and ensure that data is used strategically to improve student academic performance.
Set and model a consistent tone of highest expectations, joy, and growth mindset.
Lead key school rituals as needed to model and ingrain culture
Quickly identify and respond to classroom/school culture or behavior issues
Liaise with Learning Design to ensure shared understanding of the curriculum, lesson design and timely delivery of lesson plans
Appoint and support subject chairs who will work with LD
Serve as hiring manager for all instructional staff hires
Support teammates in setting their contributions on growth maps. Be in charge of growth map checkpoints and validations for the academic teams
Support the Principal in his or her own professional development—particularly as relates to instructional leadership
Collect, analyze, share and interpret internal and external school assessment data and ensure that data is used strategically to improve student academic performance.
Have focused attention to growth and hold learners accountable through the teachers at the subject level.
Oversee planning, execution and analysis of intervention programs targeted at needs of diverse academic subgroups, whether remedial or enrichment.
Lead parent/family education on Nova Pioneer instructional programmes
Coordinate with regulatory bodies to monitor compliance in curriculum development and and assessment. (KNEC) implementation.
Benchmark with peer institutions to identify gaps and provide interventions for improving administrative processes as well as instructional models.
Aid the coordination/engagement of the school with other schools on common benchmarks such as Exams, Set book debate as deemed appropriate.

About You
Skills and Qualifications required:

You have a TSC certificate
You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and you are TSC certified
A Masters in education/education management is desirable
You have 4+ years of experience in a rigorous, high-expectations school setting including at least one instructional leadership role (e.g., department chair, grade level lead, teacher coach, etc.)
You have rich and vast experience in school administration
You are widely recognized as a highly effective teacher and can model what great, inquiry-based teaching looks like
You have a track record of improving other people’s performance through coaching and build uncommonly strong relationships
You have an exceptional ability to think strategically and yet you sweat the small stuff—people see you as unusually detail-oriented and conscientious
You are driven by data and know how to use data from student assessments to strengthen and differentiate student learning
You are excited about our organizational culture—and in particular, you are fired up to challenge yourself by embracing mutual vulnerability and a firehose of feedback
You have a desire to further develop your learning design skills and apply them to transform the lives of African youth.
