What are Refugee Led Organizations?
RLO is an organization or group in which persons with direct lived experience of forced displacement play a primary leadership role and whose stated objectives and activities are focused on responding to the needs of refugees and/or related communities.
There are generally 3 categories of RLOs namely:
Business focused RLOs
Non-profit focused RLOs
Both Business and Non –profit RLOs
The Refugee Led Organizations Program is one of the several programs through which Inkomoko fulfills its mandate in service to the refugee communities in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, and South Sudan. The goal of this program is to strengthen the capacity of Refugee Led Organizations in scaling impact to their communities.
Inkomoko is therefore calling for proposals to design and develop a curriculum for the capacity strengthening program of existing RLOs across our countries of operations.
Key Program information
The RLO program has been designed to support the RLOs with access to funding, internal capacity training to improve operational efficiency and organizational development, advocacy, and mentorship.
The program’s training component is divided into basic and advanced levels of training, which will be delivered in a hybrid approach; virtual self-paced learning and in-person training.
Objectives of the Curriculum Development Consultancy
To respond to the training needs of refugee-led organizations by providing a comprehensive curriculum.
To produce a consolidated curriculum for basic and advanced-level training
To empower Inkomoko trainers with requisite knowledge and skills in delivering the curriculum.

SCOPE OF WORK:
The curriculum will be used for training purposes in support of the RLO capacity strengthening program across the different countries where Inkomoko operates. Inkomoko is currently operating in Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. The curriculum will be divided into two components namely the basic level and the advanced level. The basic level has 4 broad modules already developed that require review while the advanced level will comprise 10 modules that will be freshly developed. The basic level modules will be:
Business fundamentals,
Financial Literacy,
Communication channels and Social media
Marketing strategies
Investment readiness
Value-chain development
The Advanced level modules will include but are not limited to the following:
Project management
Governance and policy development
Strategic planning
Monitoring and Evaluation
Visibility and web development
Conflict management
Advocacy on issues affecting forcibly displaced persons.
Responsibilities
Review and revamp existing basic-level training modules
Developing training modules for the advanced level training
Consolidating the basic level modules and advanced level training modules into a single curriculum
Conducting TOT training on the advanced level training to Inkomoko trainers
Provide a soft document of the completed work.
Minimum Qualifications
Have a Masters degree in relevant fields(Education, Social Sciences or Business studies etc)
Have more than 5 years of experience and a track record of designing and developing high- quality training materials.
Have experience providing consultancy for private sector or international nongovernmental organizations.
Be sensitive and respectful to social and cultural differences, including being able to communicate complex ideas in simple versions.
Have the ability to work efficiently and effectively with programme stakeholders.
Have experience conducting TOT training.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proven record of developing and executing training programs
Familiar with both traditional and modern training processes
Proven ability to deliver against targets and meet deadlines.
Ethical considerations
Considering the nature of this programme, the consultant is expected to uphold the accepted norms and standards for curriculum development. All materials developed for this exercise shall remain the property of Inkomoko and must not be shared with a third party whatsoever. The consultant should be proactive enough to identify any potential risks and bottlenecks that may impede or undermine the minimum ethical requirements.
