Job Description
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the springs in the Mau region, including their hydrological characteristics, water quality, and vulnerability to contamination.
Develop detailed engineering plans and designs for the protection and sustainable management of the identified springs.
Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, guidelines, and local regulations throughout the project implementation.
Coordinate with relevant stakeholders, such as local communities, national government agencies, county governments, NGOs, and other project partners, to foster collaboration and community engagement.
Manage the procurement process for required materials, equipment, and services, adhering to SNV’s procurement procedures.
Supervise the construction activities related to spring protection, ensuring adherence to project specifications, timelines, and quality standards.
Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of project activities, including water quality testing, and provide timely progress reports.
Develop and implement appropriate operation and maintenance plans for the protected springs, including capacity building for local communities and water user committees.
Support knowledge-sharing and capacity development initiatives related to spring protection and water resource management in the Mau region.

Key Deliverables:

Assessment report on the springs, including hydrological characteristics, water quality, and contamination risks.
Detailed engineering plans and designs for spring protection, including construction drawings, material specifications, and cost estimates.
Procurement documents, such as tender notices, bid evaluation reports, and contract agreements.
Construction progress reports, including monitoring and evaluation data, as well as updates on any challenges or issues encountered during implementation.
Operation and maintenance plans for the protected springs, including training materials and manuals.
Technical guidance and training materials for project and stakeholders on water spring protection and sustainable management practices.
Stakeholder engagement plan, outlining strategies for involving local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders in the project.
Final project report summarizing the implementation process, achievements, lessons learned, and recommendations for future interventions.

Qualifications

Possess a degree in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in implementing water supply projects, preferably with experience in spring protection projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of hydrological assessment methods, engineering design principles, spring rehabilitation, and environmental considerations related to water resource projects.
Familiarity with Kenyan water resource management policies, regulations, and relevant industry standards.
Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor project activities effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders, build partnerships, and facilitate community participation.
Proficiency in relevant software applications for engineering design, data analysis, and reporting.
