Consultancy – Short-term Sexual Gender-Based Violence Experts

The Assignment

The assignment requires experts who will conduct training for judicial officers from all the SGBV courts on victim-centred administration of SGBV cases. The experts will be expected to deliver the training sessions with utmost clarity and effectiveness, providing participants with a thorough understanding of the subject matter from the 23rd to the 26th of October 2023.

Under the supervision of the Judiciary and its Partners, the following are the thematic areas the Experts are expected to address:

Sexual and Gender-based violence in the context of victim-centred approaches;
Intersection of SGBV with women’s human, economic rights, climate change;
Progressive jurisprudence on SGBV from the region, continent and the globe.

Deliverables
The Consultant will deliver the following:

An Inception Report detailing the understanding of the terms of reference, a proposed methodology, and training outline and timelines. To be delivered within four days of contract start.
Develop respective training tools and reference materials to inform training on the following;

Facilitate productive and interactive training on the administration of SGBV cases; including the intersection of SGBV with land, economic empowerment, and climate change among others.
Facilitate on the Judiciary of Kenya SGBV Strategy.
Facilitate on the Victim-Centred Approach to Justice in SGBV Cases.
Facilitate on the emerging progressive Jurisprudence on SGBV cases.

Job Requirements
Education

Hold a university degree in law or social/science, public policy, Gender, Governance or any other relevant field.

Work Experience

Minimum of 10 Years of professional experience in conducting training and other capacity-building initiatives within the criminal justice sector.
Demonstrated in-depth expertise on the legal, Policy and Institutional Framework on Gender-Based Violence and gender justice.
An understanding of the structure and operations of the SGBV Court and the Judiciary of Kenya SGBV Strategy.
Demonstrated previous experience working with or within the criminal justice sector is desirable;
Demonstrated experience working on penal legal reform.

Technical competencies

Ability to work independently and flexibly.
Ability to deliver on agreed outputs and respond to feedback in a timely and professional manner.
Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong writing and presentation skills in the English language.
