Jiongoze Project Background
I Choose Life – Africa (ICL) in partnership with Social Welfare Development Program (SOWED, Woman Kind Kenya (WOKIKE), DOCUBOX, and EASTLEIGHWOOD is implementing the Jiongoze Project funded by Global Community Engagement & Resilience Fund (GCERF). The goal of the project is to increase resilience to radicalization through improved sense of purpose and life opportunities of 6,000 youths (15 – 24 Years) in Nairobi and Garissa Counties by May 2021. The project will contribute to the goal by working towards achieving the following objectives:
To enhance a sense of purpose, identity and inclusion among 6,000 youth in and out of school through behaviour change approaches by May 2021
To reduce vulnerabilities to radicalization of 6,000 youth in Nairobi and Garissa counties through improving their employment and economic opportunities by May 2021
To adopt non-violent approaches to conflict resolution through enhancing cultural
understanding and acceptance of diversity among 20,000 community members in Nairobi and Garissa Counties by May 2021.
It will address conditions that support the spread and adoption of violent extremist ideologies among in and out of school youths. ICL’s approach will build on education, mentorship, skills building, economic empowerment and capacity building approaches.
Objective of the Assignment
Womankind Kenya seeks the services of an experienced consultant to conduct a gender analysis on the existing community structures addressing violence and radicalization in the project area and develop a corresponding advocacy strategy. This is in line with the project outcome of adopting non-violent approaches to conflict resolution through enhancing cultural understanding and acceptance of diversity among community members in Garissa County from 2nd to 22nd June 2020
Scope of Work
Under the supervision of Jiongoze Programme Manager and Wokike program team, the consultant will carry out gender analysis on the existing community structures addressing violence and radicalization targeting women and develop an advocacy strategy involving the following tasks:
Desk research: The consultant will carry out a desk study review from existing secondary sources and analyse the data. The purpose of the desk research is to review and conceptualize the existing situation, Desk research will look into the existing frameworks on gender mainstreaming within the community structures
Consultative meetings with all stakeholders: The consultant will interview sampled respondents in Garissa County; Consultations are aimed at identifying awareness levels on gender mainstreaming. The consultant will also hold Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with women within the communities in County
Validation Workshops to present the draft report to WOKIKE: The purpose is to share and discuss the findings of the study with WOKIKE and seek their feedback and input before finalizing the report. **

Duration of the assignment
A work plan for this assignment should be developed in relation to the methodology suggested by the consultant and the number of days set for this assignment which not more than 20 working days.
Skills, Qualifications and experience
The consultant(s) should possess the following
Advanced degree in social sciences, community development, monitoring and evaluation or project management with experience in similar assignment
At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional experience working on gender
responsive programming in development and/or humanitarian/post-conflict settings.
Knowledge and experience in working with marginalized groups such as women, persons with disability, youth and childre
Knowledge and experience in adult learning and participatory methodologies and approaches
Geographic expertise in Garissa County preferably.
