The Role:
The specialist will work closely to ensure that field level gender and social inclusion aspects are adequately addressed. She/he will work on strategies and approaches to ensure greater gender parity and inclusion of marginalized communities in project implementation.
Key responsibilities: Provides advice and support to management, programmes and projects focusing on achievement of the following results:
Ensure technical and operational compliance of projects in the NbS portfolio with best in class standards and methodologies for community participation and impact (e.g. Climate Community and Biodiversity Standard, Plan Vivo, etc.).
Develop frameworks and processes for projects to follow to support strong community engagement, participation, gender-equity, and support their implementation.
Identify key areas of indicators and activities and to monitor community benefits and social impacts.
Lead the development of the revenue and benefit sharing mechanisms and governance arrangements with communities across the NbS portfolio.
Consult with local resource persons knowledgeable about social inclusion and gender relations in the communities. Carrying out a detailed gender and social inclusion analysis, facilitate gender awareness.
Lead the technical development of community and social components of project documentation, working closing with the Carbon and Social Accounting Team to provide guidance, input and training where needed.
Support the design and implementation of project activities that address the unique challenges women, youth, and vulnerable groups face in their communities.
Coordinate gender monitoring and evaluation and establish mechanisms to track the implementation of initiatives.
Develop process for identifying, documenting, and disseminating gender best practices for learning purposes.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
A first (B.A) degree in gender, social sciences or related field is required. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
At least five (5) years of experience in projects relating to community development, natural resource management, climate change, gender and social impact.
Experience working with international organizations and Funded projects is preferred.
Fluency in English is required.
Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
