Community Facilitator I – Community Liaison Group (GLG)

JOB PURPOSE: 
This position’s main role is to maintain and strengthen relations and mutual understanding between communities and stakeholders and the programme. The post holder will work in close collaboration with fellow Community Facilitators and the broader Engagement Platform and Communications team in planning, implementing, and monitoring of activities aimed at fostering respectful and responsive relations between KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme [KWTRP] and the community and stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning and implementing community, public and stakeholder engagement activities within the Kilifi Health and Demographic Surveillance System (KHDSS);
Maintain a network of community representatives/Community Advisory Board from the KHDSS;
Support the Training Coordinator in implementing basic and refresher training for front-line staff;
Conduct continuous mapping and identification of potential engagement stakeholders and the publics that can be engaged by research teams;
Respond to and document concerns/issues/opinions coming from the community and through the CLG helpline;
Ensure appropriate monitoring and documentation of all assigned engagement activities, including developing and sharing of activity reports;
Support the development, production, and distribution of information, education, and communication (IEC) print, audio, and audio-visual materials;
Support Study field workers and other junior staff in the implementation of their roles and responsibilities; and;
Support other Programme research teams to develop and implement study-specific engagement activities, including through attending CAST [Community engagement Advise for Studies] meetings;
Enhance health and safety aspects of engagement activities being undertaken.
Support in the translation of informed consent and other research-related materials

QUALIFICATIONS:

Higher National Diploma in Community Development or related field.
At least 6-7 years’ experience as a Community Facilitator II or equivalent.

DESIRABLE:

Good facilitation/training skills
community mobilization skills
Knowledge of local [vernacular] language and culture is an advantage
Experience working in a research organization is an added advantage
