Communications Officer

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Communications officer performs a wide range of duties including the following:

Develop comprehensive communication plans outlining strategies, objectives, target audiences, key messages, and tactics for various campaigns.
Develop culturally and gender sensitive outreach materials and resources that address gender stereotypes about girls in STEM delivered to families and Key community actors.
Manage all the project communication channels.
Cultivate relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure coverage and manage press inquiries. This might involve drafting media pitches, organizing press conferences, and facilitating interviews.
Creating communication campaigns to address the various aspects of the project.
Develop marketing and communication toolkits for industry engagement.
Plan, promote and support execution of events such as job fairs and visits to the STEM-related industry companies and TVET institutions for Adolescent Girls
Plan, promote and support execution of Community Outreach workshops to parents/caregivers of adolescent girls, key community actors and adolescent boys.
Maintain consistency in brand messaging and visual identity across all communication channels by ensuring all the branding guidelines of the project are adhered to.
Provide communication training and support to project staff to ensure consistent messaging and effective communication skills.
Track the performance of communication efforts using metrics like media coverage, website traffic, social media engagement, and sentiment analysis.
Prepare reports to evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and make recommendations for improvement.

Education and Experience
Essential Requirements & Background:

Degree in Communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field
3 years of experience in communications and advocacy, preferably in the non-profit sector
Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage several projects at the same time
Excellent writing, strategic communication, and coordination skills
Experience working with traditional and non-traditional media outlets
Experience planning public events for youth and other audiences
Ability to work in a collaborative and team-oriented environment
Strong problem-solving skills, a creative mindset and the ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision
Commitment to CAP YEI values and principles
Photo/Video production skills or willingness to learn are considered an asset
