Communications Officer

Job description

We are excited to add a Communications Officer to our team of passionate individuals working together virtually from all over the world. While we are a completely remote team, we prefer that this position is filled by an East African citizen, as it is important to our team that the Communications Officer is based in one of the countries in which we work, and is able to work collaboratively alongside our East African partners.
Position Requirements & Responsibilities:

Generate content and schedule on our suite of social media platforms; including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn
Consistently monitor, source, produce and coordinate content for campaigns and blog posts
Draft content for bi-weekly newsletters
Create and manage marketing/outreach calendar
Work collaboratively with the Donor Engagement team in creating and executing on an organization-wide communication strategy (including, but not limited to, building social media, email marketing and fundraising campaigns)
Participate in staff team meetings and other committees, as requested (at least two evening calls per week – usually at 4pm or 5pm)
Assist in tracking and analyzing data and trends for continuous improvement of social media, website, and newsletter communications
Help ensure that organizational communications are consistent in design and tone, and follow the organizational mission, vision, and values
Must have ability to travel and maintenance of a valid passport

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience
Experience in social media content creation
Experience in creating a communication strategy
Excellent organizational skills and acute attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication in English
Exceptional time management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks
You are independent, creative, optimistic, collaborative & flexible
Advanced proficiency in creating, compiling, and tracking documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, with expertise in Excel and Google G Suite applications
Comfortable with technology and at ease learning new apps and software
Access to a computer with reliable internet

Preferences:

Hootsuite, Mailchimp and Medium proficiency
Access to a personal laptop and smartphone
Proficiency in Swahili strongly preferred
Graphic design experience
Fundraising experience
