Responsibilities:
Prepares consultation rooms, ensuring stocks, linen, basic equipment and stationery are available at all times
Performs basic assessment for all patients attending the clinic and designs care which is specific and appropriate to individual needs. Assessment includes measurement of vital signs, height, and weight
Confirms imaging and pathology reports and ensures these are present in CARE 2000 before patient is seen by the doctor
Prepares patient for physician examination and acts as chaperone where necessary
Maintains an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients
Assists the physician with clinic procedures where applicable and performs basic tests such as Glucose test and urinalysis
Proficiency in wound care
Assesses patient and family education needs and provides appropriate teaching based on their needs
Arranges for patients’ admission to the wards when necessary
Ensures safety of special populations such as paediatric, the elderly, psychiatric and patients with various forms of disabilities
Instructs patient and family regarding medications, investigations and follow up clinic appointments
Demonstrate awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals when necessary.
Observes infection control practices and maintains a clean and safe work environment for staff and patients
Maintains open communication with the patient and the multidisciplinary team in the clinics to ensure customer satisfaction
Participates in data collection and monitoring of clinic’s quality indicators
Is accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock, drugs and consumables
Responsible for safe use of equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift checks of the inventory and timely reporting of non-functional equipment to the unit supervisor
Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines for staff and patients, reporting any accidents, incidents, hazards or equipment defects in accordance with laid down policies
Participates in unit-based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), audits, spot checks and skill checks
Requirements:
KRCHN /BScN from a recognized school of Nursing or University
Current Licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya
Certificate in Basic life support (BLS)
Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in Medical-Surgical nursing
